After you install Db2 Data Management Console, you must create the Db2 Data Management Console service instance in the operands project. If you are a IBM® Software Hub user, you can use the web client to create the service instance. The web client guides you through the process of creating the service instance.

Who needs to complete this task?

Before you begin

This task assumes that the following prerequisites are met:

Prerequisite Where to find more information
Db2 Data Management Console is installed. If this task is not complete, see Installing Db2 Data Management Console.

About this task

The Db2 Data Management Console service is provisioned to any compute node in the Cloud Pak for Data cluster that has the specified resources (cores and memory) available.

Important: To complete this task, you must have the Provision Databases permission. The default Cloud Pak for Data administrator role, Admin, has this permission.

Procedure

To create a service instance

  1. Log in to the web client.
  2. Switch to the IBM Cloud Pak for Data experience, if needed.
  3. From the navigation menu, select Services > Instances.
  4. Click New instance.
  5. Click the Db2 Data Management Console tile. Then, click Next.
  6. In the Compute section, specify the Plan for the instance. You can select Small, Medium, or Large for the plan. Medium is recommended.
Plan Memory (GB) CPU (Cores) No of concurrent users No of databases
    Small 19 5 5 1
    Medium 31 10 20 10
    Large 51 19 100 50
  7. Click Next.
The console checks your OpenShift® cluster for adequate memory and CPU resources to meet your specifications. An error message displays if inadequate resources are found. If this occurs, you must either reduce the amount that you specified or add more resources to the cluster.
  8. In the Storage section, specify the resources (storage class and amount of storage) to allocate for persistent storage using Persistence Volume Claim (PVC).

For more information about the storage classes supported by Db2 Data Management Console, see Storage requirements.

For persistent volume, the minimum size is 10 (Gi).

  9. Click Next.
  10. Ensure that the summary is correct and click Create.
  11. Optional: It can take approximately 10 minutes for the service to be provisioned. Check the status to determine the state of a provisioning or provisioned service. If you want to use Cloud Pak for Data while you wait for the provisioning process to complete, click Home.
    Note:
    • If you open the provision instance for Db2® Warehouse, Db2 Advanced Edition, and Big SQL, the Db2 Data Management Console service opens directly if the console is installed else you will be redirected to the installation page
    • For Db2 Data Management Console service on AWS cluster with Portworx storage, use portworx-dv-shared-gp3 storage.
