Designating a primary governance cluster for watsonx.governance

To establish multiple clusters, you start with a stand-alone cluster that you designate as the primary governance cluster before you configure any remote clusters.

A watsonx.governance™ primary governance cluster accepts governance activity data from other watsonx.governance clusters.

You must be the instance administrator of the watsonx.governance cluster that is being configured.

Before you begin

Before you can designate a primary governance cluster, you must have the following prerequisites:
  • watsonx.governance installed on a stand-alone cluster
  • An API key

About this task

Before you designate a primary governance cluster, be aware that data on the primary governance cluster remains even after you revert the primary governance cluster to a stand-alone cluster. Reverting the primary governance cluster causes disruption for data syncing and might result in stale data.

For a direct connection, both the primary governance cluster and remote cluster must have connection to the Internet.

Procedure

To designate a primary governance cluster:

  1. Convert a stand-alone cluster to a primary governance cluster:
    1. Go to Configuration and settings > Cluster management in a watsonx.governance stand-alone cluster.
    2. Click Convert to primary goverance cluster.
    The primary governance cluster is ready to use. You can click the Governance cluster management and you will see governance activity data. When remote clusters are connected, you will see them here.
  2. Store the API key for setting up and connecting watsonx.governance remote clusters later.
    1. Open the API key management tab.
    2. Copy your API key on the primary governance cluster.
    3. You must repeat this step if the API key is deleted or overwritten.
  3. Store the URL for your primary governance cluster.
