Updating certificates

Read instructions on how to update the certificate for the Db2 for z/OS source database or the certificates for Data Gate and the target database service (Db2 or Db2 Warehouse).

Updating Db2 for z/OS certificate
Sometimes it is necessary to update the certificate of the z/OS source database.
Replacing certificates for Data Gate and the target database
The security certificates (SSL certificates) for Data Gate and your target database expire after twelve months. They are renewed automatically before the expiration date, but this scheduled renewal causes an outage of 10 to 20 minutes. During that time, the Data Gate service and the Db2 or Db2 Warehouse service will be unavailable. You are notified of the scheduled certificate renewal ahead of time on the Data Gate user interface, but the outage caused by it might come at an inconvenient time. To avoid an unplanned or unexpected outage, you can renew the certificates manually before the scheduled renewal date.
Replacing certificates for Data Gate and the remote target database
If the SSL certificates used by the remote Db2 instance are approaching their expiration date, they must be renewed or replaced before they expire. After the certificates are updated on the remote Db2 server, the corresponding TLS secret used by Data Gate must also be refreshed to contain the new certificates. Failure to update the TLS secret after certificate renewal can result in SSL handshake failures and loss of connectivity between Data Gate and the remote Db2 instance.
Enabling client certificate authentication
You might want to enable client certificate authentication at this point if you are not using it already for your instances. Client certificate authentication is a secure and convenient authentication method. Once enabled, it does not require a user to remember IDs and passwords. This way, you can share administration jobs among several users without having to disclose user ID and password credentials to each of these users.
