Upgrading IBM Software Hub

Use the following guidance to upgrade your existing installation to IBM® Software Hub Version 5.2.

Important: Starting in Version 5.1, the control plane is called IBM Software Hub. You can upgrade from some older versions of IBM Cloud Pak® for Data to IBM Software Hub Version 5.2.

Each section includes information on how to upgrade based on the current version of IBM Cloud Pak for Data or IBM Software Hub that you are running.

Version 4.0

You cannot upgrade directly from IBM Cloud Pak for Data Version 4.0.

To upgrade to IBM Software Hub Version 5.2:

  1. Upgrade from IBM Cloud Pak for Data Version 4.0 to IBM Cloud Pak for Data Version 4.6.2.

  2. Upgrade to Red Hat® OpenShift® Container Platform Version 4.10.
  3. Upgrade from IBM Cloud Pak for Data Version 4.6.2 to IBM Cloud Pak for Data Version 4.6.6.

  4. Upgrade from IBM Cloud Pak for Data Version 4.6.6 to IBM Cloud Pak for Data Version 4.8.5.

    Important: In Version 4.8, the private topology replaces the express installation topology and the specialized installation topology. In the private topology, each instance of IBM Cloud Pak for Data has its own set of operators. As part of the upgrade to Version 4.8, you are guided through the process of migrating to the new topology.
  5. Upgrade to Red Hat OpenShift Container Platform Version 4.12.
  6. Upgrade from IBM Cloud Pak for Data Version 4.8 to IBM Software Hub Version 5.2.

    The documentation assumes that you are upgrading to Version 5.2.2, but you should be able to follow documentation to upgrade to earlier refreshes.

Version 4.5

You cannot upgrade directly from IBM Cloud Pak for Data Version 4.5.

To upgrade to IBM Software Hub Version 5.2:

  1. Upgrade from IBM Cloud Pak for Data Version 4.5 to IBM Cloud Pak for Data Version 4.7.1 or later.

    Important: In Version 4.7, the private topology replaces the express installation topology and the specialized installation topology. In the private topology, each instance of Cloud Pak for Data has its own set of operators. As part of the upgrade to Version 4.7, you are guided through the process of migrating to the new topology.
  2. Upgrade from IBM Cloud Pak for Data Version 4.7 to IBM Cloud Pak for Data Version 5.0.

  3. Upgrade from IBM Cloud Pak for Data Version 5.0 to IBM Software Hub Version 5.2.

    The documentation assumes that you are upgrading to Version 5.2.2, but you should be able to follow documentation to upgrade to earlier refreshes.

Version 4.6

You cannot upgrade directly from IBM Cloud Pak for Data Version 4.6.

To upgrade to IBM Software Hub Version 5.2:

  1. Upgrade from IBM Cloud Pak for Data Version 4.6 to IBM Cloud Pak for Data Version 4.8.

Version 4.7

You cannot upgrade directly from IBM Cloud Pak for Data Version 4.7.

To upgrade to IBM Software Hub Version 5.2:

  1. Upgrade from IBM Cloud Pak for Data Version 4.7 to IBM Cloud Pak for Data Version 5.0.

  2. Upgrade from IBM Cloud Pak for Data Version 5.0 to IBM Software Hub Version 5.2.

    The documentation assumes that you are upgrading to Version 5.2.2, but you should be able to follow documentation to upgrade to earlier refreshes.

Version 4.8

You can upgrade from IBM Cloud Pak for Data Version 4.8 to IBM Software Hub Version 5.2.1.

Restriction: Upgrading to IBM Software Hub Version 5.2.0 is not recommended.

Upgrading to IBM Software Hub Version 5.2.2 is not supported.

The following upgrade paths are supported:

Version 5.0

You can upgrade from IBM Cloud Pak for Data Version 5.0 to IBM Software Hub Version 5.2.

The documentation assumes that you are upgrading to 5.2.2, but you should be able to follow the documentation to upgrade to earlier refreshes.

Important: It is strongly recommended that you upgrade to Version 5.2.1 or later.

Upgrading to Version 5.2.0 is not recommended because you must manually apply fixes after you upgrade to 5.2.0.

The fixes are included in Version 5.2.1 and later.

Version 5.1

You can upgrade from IBM Software Hub Version 5.1 to Version 5.2.

The documentation assumes that you are upgrading to 5.2.2, but you should be able to follow the documentation to upgrade to earlier refreshes.

Important: It is strongly recommended that you upgrade to Version 5.2.1 or later.

Upgrading to Version 5.2.0 is not recommended because you must manually apply fixes after you upgrade to 5.2.0.

The fixes are included in Version 5.2.1 and later.

Version 5.2

You can upgrade from IBM Software Hub 5.2.x to a later 5.2 refresh.

The documentation assumes that you are upgrading to 5.2.2, but you should be able to follow the documentation to upgrade to earlier refreshes.
