Preparing to install OpenPages
Plan and prepare to install OpenPages.
Required tasks
- Decide whether to install a single instance or multiple instances
-
- If you want to install a single instance, you can use the automatically provisioned database or an external database. Choose 1 or 2.
- If you want to install multiple instances, you must provision most of the instances in tethered projects and you can use an internal or external database. Choose 1 or 2.
- Decide whether to use a tethered project
- If you want to use a tethered project (namespace) for OpenPages instances, a cluster administrator must set up a tethered project in IBM® Software Hub. For more information, see Tethering projects to the IBM Software Hub control plane. You can use an internal or external database on a tethered project. Choose 1 or 2.
- Decide which database to use
-
- You can use the embedded Db2 database or a Db2 database that is outside of IBM Software Hub.
If you use the embedded Db2 database, Db2 is installed for you and a database is created. The database is used to store OpenPages application data.
Remember: If you want to use the embedded Db2 database, only one service instance can use the embedded Db2 database and it must be in the operands project. You can create instances in tethered projects that use embedded databases. - You can use a database that is outside of IBM Software Hub. See the following tasks.Remember: If you want to install multiple instance or use a tethered project, you can install an internal or external database.

Optional tasks
- Use dedicated nodes for your Db2 database
- If you want to use dedicated nodes for the Db2 database, configure the nodes. For more information, see Setting up dedicated nodes.
- Configure HAProxy
- If you use HAProxy on the load balancer node, verify that you meet the minimum requirements for your IBM Software Hub deployment. For more information, see Changing load balancer timeout settings.
- Integrate with Cognos Analytics
- If you want to use Cognos Analytics with OpenPages, see Integrated reporting with Cognos Analytics.
- Integrate with Global Search
- If you want to use Global Search with OpenPages, see Enabling Global Search.
