Migrating data from IBM InfoSphere Information Server to IBM Cloud Pak for Data (IBM Knowledge Catalog)

If you use IBM InfoSphere Information Server and want to start using IBM Cloud Pak for Data, you can migrate your data.

Product versions supported for migration

You can export data from IBM InfoSphere Information Server version 11.7.1.4 SP2 or later and import this data to a fresh installation of IBM Cloud Pak for Data with IBM Knowledge Catalog or IBM Knowledge Catalog Premium.

Restriction: You cannot migrate your data to an upgraded IBM Cloud Pak for Data deployment.

Migration flow

The process is broken up into these phases:
  • Preparation on the IBM InfoSphere Information Server system
    1. Make sure that your installation is at version 11.7.1.4 SP2 or at version 11.7.1.5. For installation instructions, see the following support documents:

  • Preparation on the Cloud Pak for Data system

    Complete all required preparation tasks in your Cloud Pak for Data deployment. For more information, see Prerequisites to migrating data.

  • Migration of user and permission information for IBM InfoSphere Information Server systems

    For more information, see Migrating users and groups.

  • Migration: Export preparation on the IBM InfoSphere Information Server system
    Optional: Run the export in inspect mode to determine whether your installation allows for migration:
    • Yes: Proceed to the next step.
    • No: Postpone the migration and remove the migration patches.

    Tip: You might want to clean up some data based on the results before you actually run the export.
  • Migration: Export step on the IBM InfoSphere Information Server system

    To see what data exactly will be migrated and to validate the export process, run the export and check the export logs. For more information, see Exporting the data.

    • If the export was successful, transfer the exported data to the IBM Cloud Pak for Data system and proceed with the next step. For more information, see Transferring the exported data.
    • If the export was not successful, postpone the migration and remove the migration-related patches.

    1. Run the import and check the import logs.
    2. Verify migration results. For more information, see Verifying successful migration.
