Who needs to complete this task?

Cluster administrator A cluster administrator must complete this task.

When do you need to complete this task?

One-time setup If you don't have a supported persistent storage solution for your cluster, you must complete this task before you can install IBM Software Hub.

If you have a supported persistent storage solution, you can skip this task.

Before you begin

Before you set up persistent storage, ensure that you review the available planning information:

Section What you need to know
Storage considerations Review this information to identify:
  • The types of storage that are supported by the platform
  • The features and requirements for each type of storage
  • The deployment environments that are supported for each type of storage
Storage requirements Review this information to identify which type of storage each service supports.

Depending on the services that you plan to install, you might need to install multiple types of persistent storage on your cluster.

Hardware requirements Review this information to identify the minimum amount of storage that each service requires.

Procedure

To install persistent storage, follow the appropriate documentation to install persistent storage for your cluster:
Storage Documentation links
Red Hat OpenShift Data Foundation
See the Product Documentation for Red Hat OpenShift Data Foundation:
IBM Fusion Data Foundation
  1. To deploy IBM Fusion, see Deploying IBM Fusion in the IBM Fusion documentation:
  2. To install the Data Foundation service, see IBM Fusion Data Foundation in the IBM Fusion documentation:
IBM Fusion Global Data Platform
IBM Fusion
  1. To deploy IBM Fusion, see Deploying IBM Fusion in the IBM Fusion documentation:
  2. To install the Global Data Platform service, see IBM Fusion Global Data Platform in the IBM Fusion documentation:
IBM Fusion HCI System
IBM Fusion Global Data Platform is already installed.
IBM Storage Scale Container Native (with IBM Storage Scale Container Storage Interface)
See Installing the IBM Storage Scale container native operator and cluster in the IBM Storage Scale Container Native documentation:
Portworx
See Portworx on OpenShift platforms in the Portworx documentation.
NFS
Refer to the installation documentation for your NFS storage provider.
Amazon Elastic Block Store (EBS)
Managed OpenShift
EBS is provisioned by default when you install Red Hat OpenShift Service on AWS (ROSA).
Self-managed OpenShift
EBS is provisioned by default when you install Red Hat OpenShift Container Platform on AWS infrastructure.
Amazon Elastic File System (EFS)
Install EFS from the AWS Console. It is recommended that you create a regional file system. For details, see Getting started in the Amazon Elastic File System documentation.
NetApp Trident
Self-managed NetApp Trident
See Learn about Astra Trident installation in the NetApp Astra Trident documentation.
Amazon FSx for NetApp ONTAP
Subscribe to the Amazon FSx for NetApp ONTAP service.
Use the following recommendations when you set up your Amazon FSx for NetApp ONTAP file system:
  • Use the Standard create option.
  • For high availability, you must use multi-AZ deployment type
  • The provisioned throughput should be 128 MB per second or higher.

For more information about creating the file system, see Step 1: Create an Amazon FSx for NetApp ONTAP file system.

Nutanix
You must install the following Nutanix software:
  1. Nutanix Prism Central
  2. Nutanix AOS
  3. Nutanix AHV
  4. Nutanix Files
  5. Nutanix CSI
