Getting started with Watson Discovery

With Watson Discovery, you can visually train AI for deep understanding of your content, including tables and images, to help you find business value that is hidden in your enterprise. Use natural language or structured queries to find relevant answers and surface insights.

The Watson Discovery service offers an AI-powered search engine that you can use to extract answers from complex business documents.

You can:

  • Leverage advanced search capabilities, such as table retrieval.
  • Use the built-in contract understanding function to search and interpret legal contracts.
  • Deploy the full-featured Content Mining application to conduct in-depth analysis of your data.
  • Build AI-enhanced business processes anywhere by using powerful API interfaces or reusable UI components.

Checking whether the service is installed

An administrator must install Watson Discovery.

To check whether the service is installed:

  1. From the navigation menu, select Services > Services catalog.
  2. Search for Watson Discovery.

If the service is installed and ready to use, the tile in the catalog shows Ready to use.

If the service is installed but no service instances have been created, the tile in the catalog shows Ready to provision.

Important: Even if the service is Ready to use, you must be added to a service instance to use the service.

Accessing the service

Pop-out Watson Discovery is a pop-out service. You can access the service from the Service > Service instances page.

From the Service instances page, select your Watson Discovery instance, and then click Launch tool to access an existing service instance.
