About this task

Product overview

IBM Spectrum LSF Suite for HPC is a powerful workload management platform for demanding, distributed computing environments. It provides a comprehensive set of intelligent, policy-driven scheduling features that enable you to use all of your compute infrastructure resources and ensure optimal application performance.

Its robust workload applications management capabilities are accessible with an updated web-based interface, making it powerful and simple to use.

Procedure

  1. Limitations and restrictions

Installation and operation of IBM Spectrum LSF Suite for HPC is limited to 1024 hosts, including hosts added dynamically, and supports up to 250,000 active (started and pending) jobs in the system.

  2. IBM Spectrum LSF Suite for HPC offering components
IBM Spectrum LSF Suite for HPC 10.2 Fix Pack 15 includes the following IBM Spectrum Computing components:
    • IBM Spectrum LSF 10.1 Fix Pack 15 IBM Spectrum LSF is a powerful workload management platform for demanding, distributed HPC environments. It provides a comprehensive set of intelligent, policy-driven scheduling features that enable you to use all of your compute infrastructure resources and ensure optimal application performance. The resource connector for IBM Spectrum LSF feature is also enabled for LSF clusters to borrow resources from supported resource providers.
    • IBM Spectrum LSF Data Manager 10.1 Fix Pack 15 When large amounts of data are required to complete computations, it is desirable that your applications access required data unhindered by the location of the data in relation to the application execution environment. IBM Spectrum LSF Data Manager solves the problem of data locality by staging the required data as closely as possible to the site of the application.
    • IBM Spectrum LSF Application Center 10.2 Fix Pack 15 IBM Spectrum LSF Application Center provides a flexible, easy to use interface for cluster users and administrators. IBM Spectrum LSF Application Center is the full-featured offering, including job submission, monitoring, reporting, application templates, simplified application configuration, extended template and page customization, visualization support through VNC, configurable user access control, and integration with IBM Spectrum LSF Process Manager. The IBM Spectrum LSF Application Center desktop client is also included. An IBM Spectrum LSF mobile client can be downloaded and installed from the Google Play Store or the Apple App Store. The mobile client interacts with LSF Application Center and allows a user to easily monitor their workload.
    • IBM Spectrum LSF Process Manager 10.2 Fix Pack 15 Complex scripts are often used to automate lengthy computing tasks. But these scripts can be risky to modify, and can depend on the expertise of a few key individuals. IBM Spectrum LSF Process Manager simplifies the design and automation of complex computational processes, capturing and protecting repeatable best practices.
    • IBM Spectrum LSF Explorer 10.2 Fix Pack 15 IBM Spectrum LSF Explorer is a lightweight data analysis solution for IBM Spectrum LSF clusters allowing business and technical users to rapidly create and view reports and dashboards. IBM Spectrum LSF Explorer uses Elasticsearch to rapidly store, index, and query the data. With rich, interactive, and extensible visualization capabilities, you can generate reports on how the compute environment is performing, or which resources projects or lines or business are consuming.

IBM Spectrum LSF Suite for HPC can be connected to an IBM Spectrum LSF RTM server without the need to purchase data collector entitlements for the IBM Spectrum LSF Suite for HPC hosts. This includes an optional installation of RTM Data Pollers 10.2.0.0 for RTM data collection.

Note: IBM Spectrum LSF Analytics is not supported with IBM Spectrum LSF Suite for HPC.
  3. Access the software packages

Download the IBM Spectrum LSF Suite for HPC offering distribution package for your environment from IBM Passport Advantage:

    www.ibm.com/software/passportadvantage

IBM Spectrum LSF Suite for HPC is supported on 64-bit x86 Linux systems and IBM Power LE (Little Endian) systems.

To install IBM Spectrum LSF Suite for HPC with the RPM installer, download one or both of the following files:
    • 64-bit x86 Linux systems: lsfshpc10.2.0.15-x86_64.bin
    • 64-bit x86 Ubuntu systems: lsfshpc10.2.0.15-x86_64-d.bin
    • IBM Power LE systems: lsfshpc10.2.0.15-ppc64le.bin
    • IBM Power LE Ubuntu systems: lsfshpc10.2.0.15-ppc64le-d.bin
  4. Evaluate the hardware and system configuration
The IBM Spectrum LSF Suite for HPC installation requires:
    • A computing environment that consists of at least one host
    • A host that has at least one network interface to act as the LSF management host
    • A supported operating system that is preinstalled on the LSF management host

The IBM Spectrum LSF Suite for HPC must meet the minimum hardware and software requirements of the installed components.

For details about system hardware and software requirements for IBM Spectrum LSF Suite for HPC installation, and for more information about hardware and software compatibility of IBM Spectrum LSF Suite for HPC components, see the system requirements information in IBM Documentation:
