Configuring common services

The common services minimize the data integration effort between Sterling Order Management System Software and external systems. After the tenant settings, nodes, distribution groups, and catalog capabilities are configured, data is synchronized internally across all IBM® Sterling Intelligent Promising services.

Before you begin

Ensure that you are familiar with the following concepts:

Default tenant settings
Default tenant settings are applied to your account as part of the provisioning process, if necessary you can change these settings. For more information, see Default tenant settings.
Node types
Node types are locations where inventory is stored. The default node types are distribution center and store. For more information, see Node types.
Nodes
Fulfillment nodes are locations where inventory is stored. For more information, see Nodes.
Distribution groups
Distribution groups include a network of fulfillment centers or nodes. These groups are used for network availability or sourcing restrictions. For more information, see Distribution groups.

Procedure

Configure the common services to define nodes and distribution groups across your fulfillment network.

  1. Configure the values for the default tenant settings for your account by using the Define settings API.
  2. Configure node types to define common node configurations for sourcing purposes or assign node types to a shipping node by using an API or the UI:
    Configuration option Procedure
    API Define node type
    Order Hub Managing node types
  3. Configure nodes to specify the fulfillment locations for orders by using an API or the UI:
    Configuration option Procedure
    API Define node
    Order Hub Configuring nodes
  4. Configure distribution groups to associate your inventory with nodes by using an API or the UI:
    Configuration option Procedure
    API Define distribution group
Order Hub Configuring distribution groups for inventory
