Bundle components

Many sellers offer combined or combo items as a bundle product in the marketplace.

A bundle product composes of one or more component items of various kit quantity that is sold together as a package. For example, a wine and cheese gift set consists of a gift basket, one bottle of Merlot and one block of Swiss, and two blocks of Cheddar. In comparison to model items or item with variation, bundles are different. The availability depends on the availability of all of its child components and that the delivery constraint to be shipped together. Jeans are a typical example of model items as it is made up of multiple jeans item, each with various sizes that belongs to the same style or trim.

To define a bundle item, the catalog manager must identify the kit quantity for each component. For example,
  • Bundle Item:
    • Wine and Cheese set
  • Component items:
    • 1 unit of gift basket
    • 1 unit of Merlot Wine
    • 1 unit of Swiss block
    • 2 units of Cheddar

The advantage of using a bundle item is the ability to define the quantity that is needed at the bundle parent level, without understanding the composition of the component item in an order. That is, if the order requests for two quantity of the Wine and Cheese set, the application automatically accounts for double the quantity of each component. That is 2x [gift basket, merlot, swiss] and 4x [cheddar because it has a kit quantity of 2 for each bundle item].

Similar to individual items, bundle parent and component items are both uniquely identified by the item identifier and the unit of measure.
