Viewing the optimization dashboard

You can view information about your nodes and KPIs related to total costs, orders, packages, and units on the optimization dashboard.

Accessing the Optimization dashboard

From the menu, select Promise and fulfill > Optimization dashboard from the menu. By default, the dashboard displays data for Last 30 days. You can select Today or Last 7 days or define a Custom time period for the dashboard. Within the Optimization summary section, you can get an overview of the number of orders, packages, order lines, and units optimized (per day) within the selected time period.

The options that you select to view the data are saved. Then, when you return to view the dashboard again, the options that you selected to view previously are selected for you.

Note: You can filter the order details by order status on the Optimization dashboard. To see orders with prepurchase scenario, select Carts from the Order status dropdown.

Settings

The Settings tab displays a list of optimization objectives and their corresponding weights. To set the optimization objectives and weights for an optimization profile, see Managing optimization profiles.

Nodes

Within the Nodes section, you can view the list and map view of the nodes within your fulfillment network. Here, you can find information about capacity utilization and node backlog days. Use the filter to refine the results. You can toggle the view to expand, contract, and resize it.

Overview
The Overview bar chart displays a cumulative view of the nodes within your network, and their respective capacity utilization rates for one day only. By default, it is set to today. You can change the date from the calendar. The dates that are available in the Overview calendar are limited to the dashboard's selected dates. The bars represent the number of nodes that are running at the capacity utilization rate that is defined on the X-axis. Each group in the chart represents nodes of the same node type. For example, Store or DC.

Node list
The Node list provides a summary of the node and the average backlog days. The Average backlog days is calculated when the capacity utilization at a node is greater than the available node capacity or processing plan for the day. When the date range is set to anything other than the current day, the values in the column represent the average number of backlog days for the node during that time period.

You can view your busiest nodes by sorting the Average backlog days column such that locations with the largest backlog are shown first. Backlog is determined by using the total cumulative capacity utilization at the location. For example, 3.65 backlog days indicate that the store has 3.65 days worth of work. This number includes 2.65 days of backlog work from previous days and 1 day of work for the current day when accounting for the total node capacity of the day.

Click a node within the list to see more information. The number of units in the Node capacity utilization chart represent the units that have been assigned to this location by the Optimization service. The exact number of node-capacity utilization comes from the Sterling Order Management System. The Optimization service does not store the total units against this KPI for stores that were not chosen by the Optimization service, but does account for the total units against total CCU.

Metrics

The dashboard also displays charts that contain metrics and key performance indicators (KPIs) for the orders that were optimized within the specified time period. The following tables define the various KPIs on the optimization dashboard.

Table 1. Total cost KPIs
KPI Description
Total shipping cost The total estimated shipping cost of the orders that were shipped within the selected time period.
Note: This number is an estimate since the Optimization service selects a fulfillment location and estimates that an order ships in a certain way, with a certain carrier, and by a certain date. The Sterling Order Management System might accept the selection, but how an order is ultimately shipped depends on the node.
Total processing cost

The total processing cost of the orders that were shipped during the selected time period.

Hourly rate × Total number of hours that were required to process the units = Total processing cost
Table 2. Order KPIs
Key Performance Indicator (KPI) Description
Total orders The total number of orders that were fulfilled by each node type within the selected time period.
Total orders that are fulfilled in single and multiple packages The total number of orders that were fulfilled in a single package and in multiple packages within the selected time period.
Average packages per order The average number of packages per order that were fulfilled by each node type within the selected time period.
Average order lines per order The average number of order lines per order that were fulfilled by each node type within the selected time period.
Average units per order The average number of units per order that were fulfilled by each node type within the selected time period.
Table 3. Package KPIs
Key Performance Indicator (KPI) Description
Total packages by SLA
The total number of packages that are expected to meet their SLA, miss their SLA, or meet their SLA with a shipping upgrade during the selected time period.
Meets SLA
The estimated total number of packages that are expected to meet the customer SLA.
Misses SLA
The estimated total number of packages that are expected to arrive to the customer late because the SLA cannot be met under any circumstance.
Meets SLA with shipping upgrade
The estimated total number of packages that must be upgraded to meet the customer SLA. For example, an order with an SLA of Ground Shipping might need to be expedited by 2-Day Air to accommodate the time that the order spends in sourcing.
Total packages The total number of packages that were shipped within the selected time period.
Total packages per carrier service The total number of packages that were sent by each carrier service within the selected time period.
Total packages fulfilled by node type The total number of packages that were fulfilled by each node type within the selected time period.
Average cost per package The average cost of each package that was shipped within the selected time period.
Average shipping cost per package The average shipping cost of each package that was shipped within the selected time period.
Average processing cost per package The average processing cost of each package that was shipped within the selected time period.
Average units per package The average number of units within each package that was shipped during the selected time period.
Table 4. Unit KPIs
Key Performance Indicator (KPI) Description
Total units The total number of units that were shipped within the selected time period.
Total units fulfilled by node type The total number of units fulfilled by each node type during the selected time period.
