Setting up the virtual machine
Set up the virtual machine that you must use to host the IBM Security Identity Manager.
Procedure
- Download the isim_*.iso build.
- Create a virtual machine on ESXi 5.x with the following configuration.
- Select Custom.
- Provide a name for the virtual machine.
- Choose the destination storage for this virtual machine.
- Set virtual machine version to 8 or later.
- For the Identity Manager virtual appliance, the expected guest operating system is Linux® with version 2.6.x 64 bit.
- Enter the number of virtual sockets and cores per virtual sockets for the virtual
machine. For example, enter the value as 2 for the following options to sum up the total number of cores to
4
.- Number of virtual sockets
- Number of cores per virtual socket
- Enter the memory size.
- Set the number of network connections. Important: You must create at least three network interfaces to set up the virtual machine.
- Set VMXNET 3 as the network adapter for better
results. You can also use the E1000 adapter to set up the virtual machine.
- Set the SCSI controller type to LSI Logic Parallel.
- Select the Create a new virtual disk option as the type of disk to use.
- Enter the disk size for the virtual machine.
- Accept the default settings in the Advanced Options page.
- Check summary for the configuration accuracy.
- Select the Edit the virtual machine settings before completion check box to proceed.
- Click Add in the Hardware tab of the Virtual Machine Properties window.
- Choose CD/DVD drive.
- Select the type of media that you want the virtual drive to access. For example, select Use ISO image.
- Browse to the location of the
.iso
file that is uploaded in the data store. - Click Finish on the Add Hardware window.
- Select the Connect at power on check box on the Virtual Machine Properties window.
- Click Finish on the Virtual Machine Properties window.
- Click Power on the virtual machine to proceed with the Identity Manager virtual appliance installation.
- Optional: To mount or change the IBM Security Identity Manager media for an existing virtual machine, do these
steps.
- List the options. Right-click on virtual machine that you created, and then select Edit Settings.
- Click Add in the Hardware tab of the Virtual Machine Properties window.
- Choose CD/DVD drive 1.
- Browse to the location of the
.iso
file that is uploaded in the data store. - Select the type of media that you want the virtual drive to access. For example, select Use ISO image.
- Select the Connect at power on check box on the Virtual Machine Properties window.
- Click Power on the virtual machine to proceed with the Identity Manager virtual appliance installation.
