Changing your passwords

When you change your password, you can change it for one or more, or all, of your accounts. If password synchronization is enabled, your password is changed for all of your individual accounts automatically. For sponsored accounts or if password synchronization is not enabled, select the accounts for which you want to change your password.

Before you begin

Depending on how your system administrator customized your system, you might not have access to this task. To obtain access to this task or to have someone complete it for you, contact your system administrator.

About this task

Changing your passwords on a regular basis provides greater security to your systems.

To change your passwords, complete these steps:

Procedure

  1. From the Identity Manager Home page, click Change Password from the My Password page.
  2. View or select your accounts.
    • If password synchronization is enabled, click the icon (Context menu icon) next to View my accounts that will be affected by this password change. A list of individual accounts up to the maximum search limit is displayed. The password change applies to all individual accounts. The individual accounts not listed are also changed. Click Search to select and change passwords for sponsored accounts.
    • If password synchronization is not enabled, click the icon (Context menu icon) next to Select my accounts that will be affected by this password change. You must select each account to change the password.
  3. Type your current Identity Manager password to confirm your identity.
  4. Click the twisty icon next to Review the criteria for my new password to display a list of password strength rules that must be applied for this account. The new password must conform to the password strength rules for the account, or the password is not changed. The password strength rules vary for an account, depending on your organization guidelines. If the table that displays the password strength rules is empty, no rules have been defined.
  5. Under New password, type a new password for the selected accounts in this field. Only asterisks (*) are displayed as you type.
  6. Under New password (confirm), type the new password again. Only asterisks (*) are displayed as you type.
  7. Click OK to submit your request to change the passwords of the selected accounts.
  8. Verify your request on the Request Submitted page.
  9. Click a link in the Related Tasks section.
    You can:
    • View the status of your requests.
    • Return to the Identity Manager Home page to perform other operations.
