Administration process commands

An administration request represents an administration task. These administration tasks are run by a program, Administration Process (AdminP). The administration processes are controlled by administration servers.

Administration servers

You can specify an administration server for the Domino® Directory and for specific databases. By default, the first Lotus® Domino server you set up in a domain is the administration server for the Domino Directory. The administration server for the Domino Directory maintains ACLs of the Domino Directory, performs delete and rename operations in that Domino Directory, and replicates these changes to the other servers in the domain. If you have multiple directories in your domain (not replicas of Domino directories of other domains), you can assign an administration server to each of the directories in your domain. Do not assign an administration server in your domain to a replica of Domino directory in another domain.

If a database has replicas, you assign an administration server to only one replica. The Administration Process makes changes to that replica, and replication for that database carries out those changes in all other replicas.

Administration requests database

When an administrator generates administration requests, such as deleting all replicas of a database from the Lotus Domino server, deleting a user from the Lotus Domino server, and so on, these requests are stored in the administration request database, admin4.nsf. This database is created on the administration server for the Domino Directory when that server starts for the first time. The status of work done by the Administration Process is stored in this database in the form of response log documents. To complete administration tasks, the Administration Process responds to requests stored in the administration request database. The Lotus Domino server uses replicas of this database to distribute requests made on one server to other servers in the domain.

When other server in the domain starts, if the administration request database does not exist, the server creates a replica of the administration request database and waits for it to be initialized from another server in the domain. Every server in the domain stores a replica of the administration request database and the Domino directory.

You can perform the administration tasks from the ADMINP page of the Notes® account form by running the following ADMINP commands:
  • Rename
  • Recertify
  • MoveUserInHierarchy
  • MoveComplete
  • NewReplica
  • MoveReplica
  • DeleteInACL
  • DeleteInNAB
  • DeletePersonInNAB
