Support for creating roaming users
Roaming users are users who can access Notes® from different workstations when the Notes client is installed on each workstation.
Such users can access their customized settings and personal
information
automatically from any Notes client in the domain.
The data from roaming users replicates between the user's workstation
and the roaming server. This data is stored in the following roaming
files:
- names.nsf
- bookmark.nsf
- notebook.nsf
- localfeedcontent.nsf
- roamingdata.nsf
When a roaming user changes these database files, the changes are replicated to the roaming server. The replication enables the roaming user to have a consistent experience from any Notes client. A roaming user's entry in the Domino® directory is marked by a globe icon.
Roaming-users-related attributes on
the Notes account form
- User can roam
- This attribute indicates whether
you are a roaming user or a non-roaming
user. The default value of this attribute is
No, which indicates that you are a non-roaming user. This attribute is required for creating a roaming user.
- Roaming Server
- This
attribute specifies the roaming server where the roaming files are
stored. If the attribute User can roam is set
to
Yes, you must specify the roaming server.
- Roaming replica Servers
- This attribute specifies the roaming replica server where the roaming files are replicated. There can be multiple roaming replica servers for a user. This attribute is optional while creating a roaming user.
- User subfolder
- This
attribute contains the name of the folder on the roaming
server where the roaming files are created. If the attribute User
can roam is set to
Yes, you must specify the user subfolder on the roaming server.
- Clean-up setting
- This attribute contains information
about cleanup settings for
a user. You can select one of the following clean-up options for a
roaming user:
- Do not clean-up: The data from roaming users is not deleted from the Notes client workstation to which the user is roamed.
- Clean-up periodically: The data from roaming users is deleted from the Notes client at regular intervals that is specified in the Clean-up interval attribute.
- Clean-up at Notes shutdown: The data from roaming users is deleted from the Notes client workstation immediately after shutting down the Notes client.
- Prompt user for clean-up: Roaming users are prompted to clean up their personal files when they exit the Notes client.
Do not clean-up.
- Clean-up interval
- This attribute
specifies the intervals at which the data from
roaming users is deleted. It can contain values from 1 to 365. The
adapter does not set the value of this attribute if the value of the clean-up
setting attribute is other than
Clean-up periodically.Note: During the add operation, if you specify the Clean-up setting attribute asClean-up periodicallyand do not specify any value for the Clean-up interval attribute, then by default, the adapter sets the clean-up interval as 365.
Creating a roaming user
The following example explains the creation of a roaming user from IBM® Security Identity Manager:
Example:
To create a roaming user from IBM Security Identity Manager, specify
the following attributes in the Notes account
form.
| User ID: | NTaylor |
| Given name: | Nancy |
| Family name: | Taylor |
| User can roam: | Yes |
| Roaming Server: | ps3970/ibm |
| User subfolder: | roaming\NTaylor |
| Clean-up setting: | Do not clean-up |
After the add operation, the adapter creates the roaming user Nancy Taylor on the server ps3970/ibm, under the folder NTaylor.
