Setting up IBM Security Guardium Data Connector

The first step in getting started with IBM Security Guardium Analyzer is downloading and installing the Guardium Data Connector tool. This tool allows you to connect your data sources to the cloud for scanning.

Before you begin

Before proceeding with the installation, make sure your environment meets the System requirements and prerequisites.
Important: Guardium Data Connector must be installed on a server in your local data center that is running a supported version of Windows. It cannot be installed on an actual data source server - however, you can connect multiple data sources (from different data source servers) to your Guardium Data Connector instance.

Procedure

To set up Guardium Data Connector:

  1. When you log in to Guardium Analyzer, you are prompted to download Guardium Data Connector. Download the ibm-data-connector.zip file and then extract it to a local drive.
  2. Locate and run Setup.exe in the extracted location.
Note: When launching the Guardium Data Connector installation, and when launching the tool after installation, you may receive a WS.Reputation.1 notification if you are running Symantec Endpoint Protection. This occurs because Guardium Data Connector is a new product, and Symantec Endpoint Protection is not yet familiar with the Guardium Data Connector installation. The notification is a false positive that can safely be ignored.
  3. In the Choose destination location page, specify the installation directory and then click Next. The default directory is C:\Program Files\IBM\Guardium Data Connector.
  4. When the installation is complete, click Finish to exit the installation wizard.
  5. After Guardium Data Connector is installed, you are prompted to log in to it. If you choose Yes, the Guardium Data Connector browser page opens. If you choose No, you can log in at a later time with https://localhost/SecureConnector/index.html or by selecting IBM Security Guardium Data Connector > Configuration in the Windows Start menu.
  6. Guardium Data Connector includes a self-signed certificate to ensure a trusted connection. After launching Guardium Data Connector, you will need to configure your browser to work with this self-signed certificate.
