System requirements and prerequisites

IBM Security Guardium Data Connector

Installation environment

Guardium Data Connector must be installed on a server in your local data center that is running a supported version of Windows. It cannot be installed on an actual data source server - however, you can connect multiple data sources (from different data source servers) to your Guardium Data Connector instance.

Minimum hardware requirements

Guardium Data Connector requires a minimum of:

  • 4 processing units (multi-core processor with a minimum of 4 cores)
  • 8 GB memory (RAM)
  • 10 GB of free disk space

Operating system support

Guardium Data Connector is supported on 64-bit versions of Windows 7, Windows 10, Windows Server 2012 R2, and Windows Server 2016.

Data source connection support

You can connect up to 100 data sources to your data connector.

Guardium Data Connector includes Java™ Database Connectivity (JDBC) drivers for connecting to these data sources:

  • IBM DB2® for Linux, zLinux, UNIX, and Windows Versions 9.5, 9.7, 10.1, 10.5, and 11.1
  • IBM DB2 for i Version 7.x (all releases of Version 7)
  • IBM Informix Versions 11.50, 11.70, and 12.10
  • Microsoft SQL Server 2012, 2014, 2016, and 2017 (all editions of these versions)
  • MySQL Versions 5.5, 5.6, and 5.7 (all editions of these versions)
  • Oracle Database Versions 11g Release 1, 11g Release 2, 12c Release 1, and 12c Release 2
Note: Guardium Data Connector strives to support data source versions that are currently supported by the companies that produce them - and the data source versions listed above have been fully tested and verified. IBM does not support data sources that are end-of-support, because these data sources do not receive security patches or updates and they are a risk to organizations. It is possible that Guardium Data Connector will work with other data source versions, but if users choose to deploy Guardium Data Connector against outdated or end-of-support data sources, users do so at their own risk and IBM cannot support such environments.

When adding a data source to a data connector, these are the data source types that you can specify:

  • DB2
  • DB2 for i
  • Informix
  • MS SQL SERVER (DataDirect)
  • MS SQL SERVER (DataDirect - Dynamic Port)
  • Oracle (DataDirect - SID)
  • Oracle (DataDirect - Service Name)
  • MySQL
Note: Subscription plans for IBM Security Guardium Analyzer are sold per data source connection. This means:
  • For these data source types:
    • IBM DB2 for Linux, UNIX, and Windows
    • IBM Informix
    • Microsoft SQL Server
    • MySQL
    • Oracle

a data source is a database instance. This means that every database instance requires a data source connection. For these data source types, the number of servers or nodes are irrelevant to Guardium Analyzer pricing because the data volume in database instances may be shared across multiple nodes, clusters, or servers, and so the same data flows throughout the environment.

  • For IBM DB2 for i, there are no instances - rather, each schema represents an instance. This means that every database schema requires a data source connection.
