Statement of Direction

Advance notification for IBM SevOne NPM 7.2.x feature deprecation regarding SevOne NPM Network Management System (NMS) SevOne Unified Reporting Framework (SURF) User Interface includes:
  • Report Creation
  • Report Management
  • Status Map Management
  • Instant Graphs
  • Forced Login

SevOne Data Insight is the directional reporting UI for SevOne NPM. To advance SevOne NPM strategy of UI consolidation, SevOne NMS reporting capabilities that are superseded by SevOne Data Insight will be removed from the SevOne NMS reporting UI.

This deprecation will take a phased approach. The first phase occurs in SevOne NPM 8.0.0 targeted for release later this year.

The following components will be deprecated from the NMS SURF UI for newly deployed instances of SevOne NPM 8.0.0:
  • Report Creation - Create Report will be deprecated in favor of report creation in SevOne Data Insight. DI reporting is more flexible and allows users to get more value out of the data they collect.
  • Report Management - Manage Report will be deprecated in favor of report management in SevOne Data Insight.
  • Instant Graphs - Instant Graphs will be deprecated in favor of Instant Graphs in SevOne Data Insight. Instant Graphs will have the same functionality along with several enhancements.
  • Status Map Management - Status Map Manager will be deprecated in favor of Live Maps in SevOne Data Insight.
  • Forced Login - Forced Login allows a user to login to SevOne NMS using a carefully crafted URL. This feature will be replaced in the 2nd phase of this deprecation.

The features listed above will still be available in the SevOne NMS SURF UI for clusters upgrading to SevOne NPM 8.0.0, but will not be available on newly deployed peers on SevOne NPM 8.0.0, even if they are peered into clusters where those features are still available on pre-existing peers.

The intent is to fully remove the listed features from the SevOne NPM NMS SURF User Interface for all clients upgrading to SevOne NPM 9.0.0 or later.

Clients who have not already adopted SevOne Data Insight for reporting use cases should plan to deploy and migrate report content and users before upgrading to SevOne NPM 9.0.0.

No replacement components will be offered unless noted above.
