Upgrading SevOne NPM to 7.0.x from Previous Versions

The IBM SevOne Network Performance Management (NPM) 7.0 contains the following components.
  • SevOne NMS
  • SevOne Data Insight
  • SD-WAN
  • SDN
  • WiFi
Note:
  • To upgrade to SevOne NMS 7.0.x, you must be on SevOne NMS 6.7.x or SevOne NMS 6.8.x. If you are on a previous version, please see the table of the Start Version you are at, to upgrade to its applicable End Version and continue the upgrade until you are at SevOne NMS 6.7.x or SevOne NMS 6.8.x

  • To ensure the smoothest upgrade and not interrupt your user’s productivity, do not initiate your upgrade until you have reviewed all deprecations for each release you pass through on your upgrade path to 7.0. Deprecation notices are communicated in the IBM’s Release announcements. Please sign into the IBM Support Portal and subscribe to IBM SevOne NPM.

  • As of SevOne NPM 6.5.0, all five components are part of one product, IBM SevOne Network Performance Management (IBM SevOne NPM).

    To complete your upgrade, all components must be on the same version. IBM supports one version back for the purpose of performing upgrades.

    • Not all features will be enabled until components are on the same version.
    • Some features will not work unless the components are on the same version.

  • Order of Upgrades
    When multiple components of SevOne NPM are involved, the Solutions components (SDN, SD-WAN, and WiFi) must be upgraded first followed by SevOne Data Insight and then, SevOne NMS.

You are currently reviewing Guides and Release Notes for SevOne NPM 7.0 version. If your SevOne NPM components are on prior release(s), you are ready to upgrade to SevOne NPM 7.0. To begin, identify the SevOne NPM version for each component in use. Then identify your starting version in the tables below. Depending on your starting release, you will take a different path to get to SevOne NPM 6.8.x / 7.0.x. Due to architectural changes, you may have to pass through one or more version gates before proceeding with your upgrade.

For example, if you are on 5.7.2.1 and you want to end on 7.0.x, you must upgrade to 5.7.2.32 before proceeding to the second gate 6.3.1 then third gate 6.7.x before completing your upgrade to 6.8.x or 7.0.x.

The tables below outline the upgrade paths and the order of upgrade for SevOne NPM. Depending on your current Start Version, you are eligible to upgrade directly to the specific End Version. It is essential to adhere to the designated upgrade path according to your Start Version to ensure a smooth transition to the compatible End Version.

You are now on version SevOne NMS 5.7.2.32.
Note: SevOne NMS 5.7.2.30 - 5.7.2.32 and the other components in-use can now be upgraded to its respective end version.

You are now on version SevOne NMS 6.3.1.
Note: SevOne NMS 6.1.0 - 6.6.x and the other components in-use can now be upgraded to its respective end version. You will notice in the table below that the version numbers between components are now aligned to the same version. i.e., 6.7.x.
Important: SD-WAN Fortinet and SD-WAN VMWare will automatically be upgraded when SevOne NMS is upgraded to 6.7.x.

Note: SevOne NMS 6.7.x and the other components in-use can now be upgraded to end version 6.8.x.
Important: SD-WAN Fortinet and SD-WAN VMWare will automatically be upgraded when SevOne NMS is upgraded to 6.8.x.

Important:
If you have add-ons (customizations), additional work needs to be performed before upgrading to SevOne NPM 7.0.x because IBM SevOne NMS runs on read-only containers to simplify upgrades and increase security. Starting with 7.0.x, add-ons and customization need to be modified to run in their own containers before upgrading to 7.0.x.

If you do not have the time to containerize your add-ons / customization, IBM recommends stopping at 6.8.x until this additional work can be performed.

Note: SevOne NMS 6.7.x - 6.8.x and the other components in-use can now be upgraded to end version 7.0.x.
Important: SD-WAN Fortinet, SD-WAN VeloCloud (VMWare), and SDN will automatically be upgraded when SevOne NMS is upgraded to 7.0.x. WiFi is also upgraded automatically but the configuration related to the Device Group must be done manually.
