Topology Widget

The Topology widget can visualize device physical connections and logical relationships derived from various protocols. Perform the steps below to configure settings for the Topology widget.

Data

The Data tab enables you to select the resources for which you want to view the topology.

Perform the following steps to set the widget settings for Data tab.

  1. For Datasource and Resource Type settings, please refer to section Select Widget Resources in section Create.
  2. Enable Use Lat/Long Metadata to allow user to choose a metadata namespace. This option enables using metadata in SevOne NMS to automatically place devices on the map at the coordinates found in the metadata value. Once the user specifies a Namespace and Attribute, it checks the devices.
    1. if all the selected devices have latitude / longitude information set, it will by default display the devices in Map mode and will allow user to toggle to Canvas mode.
    2. if some of the selected devices have latitude / longitude information set, it will by default display the devices in Canvas mode but will allow user to toggle to Map mode
    3. if none of the selected devices have latitude / longitude information set, it will by default display in Canvas mode and you will not have the capability to toggle between Map and Canvas modes.
Note: In Canvas mode, Options drop-down will be available to choose the LAYOUT if Charts > Visualization > Topology visualization > Show topology options check box is selected.
  3. For Number of Hops, enter the number of hops to graph.
  4. Click Run to execute the Topology configuration and generate a report.
Note: Run button is only available when one or more fields are changed in the Data tab.
Note: Replace Untitled Report with a report name. For example, Topology Report.
Replace Untitled Section and provide a name to it. For example, Topology.

    Example:
    Lat/Long Metadata disabled,

    Topology Data

    Lat/Long Metadata enabled,

Topology Data Lat / Long Enabled
    Important: Example: Customize Layout

After choosing Focal Device and Number of Hops, click Run.
    Before Custom Topology Layout

Note: Options drop-down is only available if Charts > visualization > Topology visualization > Show topology options check box is selected.
The drop-down allows you to choose the LAYOUT from the following options:
    • Organic
    • Standard (default)
    • Structural
    • Lens
    • Sequential
    • Tweak

Topology has two mouse modes - hand mode Hand mode and pointer mode Pointer mode. To toggle between mouse modes, click on the icon.

To customize the layout, you must be in Data tab.

Click on Hand mode to change it to images/Left Arrow. Move the nodes around to customize the layout.

    After Custom Topology Layout
Important: Predefined layouts are available from Charts, Topology visualization, under General > Layout drop-down.

Filters

The Filters tab enables you to apply filters to display results.

Topology Filters

Perform the following steps to set the widget settings for Filters tab.

  1. Click the Attribute drop-down to filter output by Device Group or Device Type or Link Type.
  2. Click the Operator drop-down to choose the relational operator. For example, Equals.
  3. For attribute Device Group, enter the value in Value field.
  4. For attribute Link Type, click Link Types drop-down to select one or more link types. For example, Logical, Session, Physical.
  5. Click Add to add the new filter. The filters you add appear under the Add/Remove buttons.
  6. To remove any filter(s) from the list, select the check box for filter(s) you would like to remove and click Remove.

Linking

The Linking tab enables you to select a data element and link it to a related report or report template. Perform the following steps to add, delete, and edit links.

Topology Filters

Perform the following steps to set the widget settings for Linking tab.

  1. Include report links allows report consumers to click on a data element such as, device name, and link it to the related report. Enable to include the report link that you configure. If you want to prevent the report link from being included, disable it. Continue with the steps below to configure report link(s).
  2. By default, Report Link <#> is enabled.
Note: If you wish to exclude the report link, disable Report Link <#>.
  3. Use the Clicking on drop-down to select a data item that you want to link with the report or report template. When you select a data item for a report link, that data item is no longer listed as an option for other report links as it has already been used. You can apply multiple reports/report templates to the selected data item. For example, Device Name or Object Name.
  4. Click the Links to report drop-down and select one or more reports or report templates to display when you click on the data item that you specified in the previous step.
  5. To remove the report link, click Trash can.
  6. To create additional report link(s), click Add report link button.

Charts

The Charts tab enables you to define how you want to display the report data.

Visualizations

The charts provide Topology visualization only.

Topology

The Topology visualization displays the selected focal device in the network based on the layout selected. Perform the following steps to set the widget settings for the Topology visualization.

  1. Select the Topology visualization by clicking Topology icon .
  2. TOPOLOGY VISUALIZATION - Enables you to select the layout to display the network topology.
    1. Click the Layout drop-down and select one of the following layout options to display the network topology.
    2. Select the Show topology options check box to display the layout options when you are in Canvas mode.
    3. Select the Show filter selector check box to display the output based on the filter added in the Filters tab.
