TopN Widget

The TopN widget can quickly identify the highest or lowest performing metrics across a set of resources. Perform the steps below to configure settings for the TopN widget.

Data

The Data tab enables you to select resources for which you want to view the TopN.

Perform the following steps to set the widget settings for Data tab.

  1. For Datasource and Resource Type settings, please refer to section Select Widget Resources in Create.
  2. TopN view - Choose a TopN view from the drop-down list.
  3. Member of - Select one of the following options:
    • Any - to choose from any of the selected devices, device groups, or object groups.
    • All - to choose from all of the selected devices, device groups or object groups.
    Note: Member of field in only available when:
    • If Resource Type chosen is Device, you must select more than one device for Member of field to be available.
    • If Resource Type chosen is Device group, select one or more device groups. Choose optional resource type Device and you must select more than one device for Member of field to be available.
    • If Resource Type chosen is Object group, you must select more than one object group for Member of field to be available.
  4. In the Result limit field, enter the number of results to display.
    Important: Result limit greater than 200 can impact performance.
  5. Enable Limit chained resource count to limit the amount of resources displayed on chained widgets making them easier to view and quicker to load.
  6. Click Run to generate a TopN report based on the configuration.
    Note: Run button is only available when one or more fields are changed in the Data tab.

Analyze

The Analyze tab enables you to define settings for the data you retrieve and to use data analysis features. Views define the data to appear in the report. SevOne NMS provides starter set TopN views to enable you to create common TopN graphs. You can also create custom TopN views in SevOne NMS. For more information on configuring TopN views, please refer to SevOne NMS User Guide.

TopN - Analyze

Perform the following steps to set the widget settings for Analyze tab.

  1. Click the Preferred units drop-down and select Bits for network-oriented data or Bytes for server-oriented data.
  2. Click the Aggregation drop-down and select one of the following options. Select Auto to use pre-computed logical units of data. Select Hourly for more precision or select a longer time span such as Monthly for capacity planning.
    Important: Warning
    Aggregation is set to Auto by default. If you disable auto-aggregation (by selecting an option other than Auto), you may experience significant performance issues. If necessary, only advanced users should disable auto-aggregation.
    1. Auto - to use the fastest/most applicable frequency aggregation.
    2. Hourly - to use data stored in hourly buckets. The SevOne NMS 6.x Cluster Manager > Cluster Settings tab enables you to define how long to store data in hourly buckets. Hourly buckets are useful when the time span is less than one week. For additional details, please refer to SevOne NMS System Administration Guide.
    3. Daily - to use data stored in daily buckets. The SevOne NMS 6.x Cluster Manager > Cluster Settings tab enables you to define how long to store data in daily buckets. Daily buckets are useful when the time span is between one week and three months. For additional details, please refer to SevOne NMS System Administration Guide.
    4. Weekly - to use data stored in weekly buckets. Data stays in weekly buckets for 365 days. Weekly buckets are useful when the time span is between three months and one year.
    5. Monthly - to use data stored in monthly buckets. Data stays in monthly buckets for 730 days. Monthly buckets are useful when the time span is between one year and two years.
  3. Click Days to threshold drop-down to enter a threshold to determine when the data will drop below or exceed the value defined.

    Important: This field is enabled only when the Analyze > Sort by field is a projected time span. For example, Next 7 Days.

    You can define a threshold to determine when the data will drop below or exceed the value you define. Choose the units from the drop-down list. For example, Percent, Amps, Bits, Bytes, Days, etc.

    Important: Only enabled for Table visualization . For example, Next 7 Days.
  4. Click the Work hours drop-down and select one of the following options:
    1. None - to include all data for the device.
    2. Device - to include data for the work hours that you associate with the device on the SevOne NMS 6.x Edit Device page. For more details, please refer to SevOne NMS User Guide.
  5. Select the Use percentage check box to compare capacity or leave clear to compare the relative values of the different metrics.
  6. Select the Show only exceeding objects check box to display only the metrics that SevOne Data Platform projects will exceed 100%.
    Important: This field is enabled only when the Analyze > Sort by field is a projected time span. For example, Next 7 Days.
  7. Select the Display R value (certainty) check box to display the percentage of data points relevant to the display of a projected trend .
  8. Click the Timespan drop-down and select one of the following options:
    • Past <n> hours, days, weeks, months, quarter, year to display data from hours, days, weeks, months, quarter, or year ago until now.
      Important: As of SevOne Data Insight 3.6, TopN Widget no longer supports timespan Past 2 hours. This will now match SevOne NMS.
    • Today - to display data from 12:00am today until now.
    • Yesterday - to display data from 12:00am yesterday until 12:00am today.
    • Last week, month, quarter, year - to display data from 12:00am on the first day of the last completed week, month, quarter, or year to 11:59pm on the last day of the last completed week, month, quarter, or year.
    • This week, month, quarter, year - to display data from 12:00am on the first day of the week, month, quarter, or year until now.
    • Customize the time span with From and To date / time.
  9. Click the Time zone drop-down and select a time zone.
  10. Click the Sort By drop-down and select a time span to sort by.
  11. Click the Sort order drop-down and select Ascending to sort results in ascending order or Descending to sort results in descending order.

Linking

The Linking tab enables you to select a data element and link it to a related report or report template. Perform the following steps to add, delete, and edit links.

TopN - Linking

Perform the following steps to set the widget settings for Linking tab.

  1. Include report links allows you to include the report links that you configure. Enable to include the report link that you configure. If you want to prevent the report link from being included, disable it. Continue with the steps below to configure report link(s).
  2. By default, Report Link <#> is enabled.
    Note: If you wish to exclude the report link, disable Report Link <#>.
  3. Use the Clicking on drop-down to select a data item that you want to link with the report or report template. When you select a data item for a report link, that data item is no longer listed as an option for other report links as it has already been used. You can apply multiple reports/report templates to the selected data item. The drop-down list contains data items available from Charts tab > Table subtab > COLUMN SELECTION. For example,
    • Device ID - the device ID.
    • Device Name - the device name.
    • Object Name - the object name.
    • Object Description - the object description.
    • Indicator - the indicator name.
    • Indicator Alias - the indicator name to display in the attachment. For example, display an Octets indicator as Incoming Bandwidth.
    • etc.
  4. Click the Links to report drop-down and and select one or more reports or report templates to display when you click on the data item that you specified in the previous step.
  5. To remove the report link, click Trash can icon.
  6. To create additional report link(s), click Add report link button .

Charts

The Charts tab enables you to define how you want to display the report data.

Visualizations

The charts provide 3 visualizations.

TopN Visualization Charts

Table

The Table visualization displays the data as a table. Perform the following steps to set the widget settings for the Table visualization.

Note: Metadata values can be added as columns for Table visualization.
  1. Select the Table visualization by clicking Table visualization.
  2. TABLE TITLE
    1. Enable Show title to enter the title name in the text field provided and display it in report. Else, disable it.
    2. Enable Show subtitle to enter the sub-title name in the text field provided and display it in the report. Else, disable it.
  3. TABLE VISUALIZATIONS
    1. Select the Allow column reordering check box to allow the columns that display in the report to be reordered.
    2. Select the Allow showing/hiding columns check box to allow columns in the report to be hidden and unhidden.
    3. Select the Auto abbreviate numbers check box to abbreviate large numbers. Examples of large integer abbreviation are:
      • 5000 becomes 5K
      • 5000000 becomes 5M

      To abbreviate large decimal numbers, you must enter the data precision in the Custom precision field. To do this, follow the steps below:

      1. Uncheck Auto abbreviate numbers field.
      2. Custom precision field is now available.
      3. Enter the data precision in the Custom precision field. For example, enter 4.
      4. The values displayed in report will now display data with the data precision entered. Examples of large decimal number abbreviation are:
        • 20.12345 will display as 20.1234 when Custom precision = 4
        • 20.12345 will display as 20.12 when Custom precision = 2
        • 20.14912 will display as 20.15 when Custom precision = 2 NOTE: Number is rounded.
    4. Select the Wrap cell contents check box to wrap long text in a data row so that all text displays. Leave clear to display as much text as fits into the cell with ellipses to indicate there is more text.
    5. Disable Show search bar if you do not want the search capability. If Show search bar is enabled, you may click Funnel icon to allow Search by column and perform a search in the table.
  4. COLUMN SELECTION
    1. Select the check boxes to display the selected fields as data columns in the table. The names in the second column are the names for the columns that appear in the report. You may modify the names in the second column to your choice.
  5. COLOR RANGES
    Note: The color ranges must be from the least to the greatest values.
    1. Enable Use custom color ranges to customize the colors for the cells or rows. Else, disable it.
    2. If Use custom color ranges field is enabled, select one of the following options:
      • Color cell only - to apply the color to a cell only.
      • Color entire row - to apply the color to the entire row.
      • Color based on other column - to color a column based on the value in another column.
    3. Click the Color column drop-down and select the column to apply the color to. This list contains the columns selected in COLUMN SELECTION above.
    4. If Color based on other column option is selected, choose an option from the Color based on column drop-down list. For example, choose All Timespans for Color column. Choose All Timespans (%) for Color based on column. Then, select the From / To values and colors. The Timespan columns such as Past 24 hours, Past 48 hours, etc. will get the color(s) based on the From / To values set for the Past 24 hours (%), Past 48 hours (%), etc. columns.
    5. Enable Show hidden columns to include the columns in Color column drop-down list which are not selected in COLUMN SELECTION section.
    6. In the From field, enter the starting point for the range that applies to the column you selected in the previous step. This is the starting point for the color range.
    7. In the To field, enter the end point for the color range.
    8. Click Red color to display the color palette. Select a color to apply to the specified range.
    9. Click the drop-down to choose an icon to add to the color range. Select one of the following icons:
      • None - indicates no icon is chosen. Or, leave as blank if you do not want to specify an icon.
      • Checkmark indicator - indicates that everything is okay.
      • Error indicator - indicates that something is wrong.
      • Warning indicator - indicates a warning.
    10. Click Add Color to add additional end points to the specified range. Then specify a color and add an Icon to display if needed.
    11. Click Reverse Colors to reverse the order of the colors (from top to bottom or vice versa) in the To fields.
    12. To delete the color range, click Trash can icon.

Bar

The Bar visualization displays a graph of qualitative independent variables such as when you need to compare the in octets of two or more routers. Perform the following steps to set the widget settings for the Bar visualization.

  1. Select the Bar visualization by clicking Bar vizualization.
  2. BAR CHART TITLE
    1. Enable Show title to enter the title name in the text field provided and display it in report. Else, disable it.
    2. Enable Show subtitle to enter the sub-title name in the text field provided and display it in the report. Else, disable it.
  3. BAR VISUALIZATIONS
    1. It provides 2 different visualizations.
      • Horizontal - to display horizontal bars.
        TopN Visualization - Bar Horizontal
      • Vertical - to display vertical bars.

    2. Under Spacing, extend the bar to the right to increase the amount of space between bars or shorten the bar to decrease the amount of space.
    3. Enable Show tooltip to display tooltips when you hover over sections of the bar graph or over labels (if labels are used). Select the check box for each of the following options that you would like to apply to the tooltips:
      • Device name - to display the device name.
      • Object name - to display the object name.
      • Indicator - to display the indicator name.
      • Value - to display the value.

      If you do not want to display the tooltips, disable Show tooltip.

  4. VALUE AXIS
    1. In the Value Axis Max field, enter the maximum value (in bits / bytes based on units selected in tab Analyze > Preferred units field) of the value axis on the chart.
    2. In the Value Axis Min field, enter the minimum value (in bits / bytes based on units selected in tab Analyze > Preferred units field) of the value axis on the chart.
      Important:
      • If vertical visualization is chosen, the min/max values reflect on the y-axis of the chart.
      • If horizontal visualization is chosen, the min/max values reflect on the x-axis of the chart.

        Maximum value must always be greater than the minimum value.

  5. LEGEND
    1. Enable Enable legend to display a legend for the graph. Else, disable it.
    2. Select one of the following options.
      • Standard - to display the legend using the standard format.
        • Click the Position drop-down to specify where you would like the legend to appear in relation to the graph. The position is set to Bottom by default. Other options include Top, Left, and Right.
      • Table - to display the legend in table format.
  6. GOAL LINES
    1. Enable Show goal lines check box to add one or more goal lines to the graph. Then perform the following actions:
      • In the Name field, enter a name for the goal line.
      • Click Yellow color to display the color palette. Select a color to apply.
      • If you choose to use metadata for the goal line, select Use metadata for goal line check box and choose the Metadata key. This will add a goal line for any indicator that has a value for the selected metadata key. Else, enter the target value for the goal line in the Value field.
      • To add another goal line, click Add Goal Line button and repeat the actions above.
      • To remove a goal line, click Trash can icon next to that goal line.

Pie

The Pie visualization displays the data as a pie graph. This visualization is useful for percent reports such as when you need to graph the available hard drive space on a device. Perform the following steps to set the widget settings for the Pie visualization.

  1. Select the Pie visualization by clicking Pie visualization.
  2. PIE CHART TITLE
    1. Enable Show title to enter the title name in the text field provided and display it in report. Else, disable it.
    2. Enable Show subtitle to enter the sub-title name in the text field provided and display it in the report. Else, disable it.
  3. PIE VISUALIZATIONS
    1. It provides 3 different visualizations.
      • Donut
        TopN Pie Visualization - Donut
      • Pie
        TopN Pie Visualization - Pie
      • Nightingale
        TopN Pie Visualization - Nightingale
    2. Under Radius, extend the bar to the right to increase the radius or shorten the bar to decrease the radius.
    3. Enable Show labels to display labels for the device name, object name, indicator name, and percentage of the pie graph. Else, disable it.
    4. Enable Show tooltip to display tooltips when you hover over sections of the pie graph or over labels (if labels are used). Select the check box for each of the following options that you would like to apply to the tooltips:
      • Device name - to display the device name.
      • Object name - to display the object name.
      • Indicator - to display the indicator name.
      • Value - to display the value.
      • Percent - to display the percentage of the pie graph for the section.

      If you do not want to display the tooltips, disable Show tooltip.

    5. Enable Enable "Others" to add a slice called Others that rolls up values below the percentage value entered in field Percentage.
  4. LEGEND
    1. Enable Enable legend to display a legend for the graph. Else, disable it.
    2. Select one of the following options:
      • Standard - to display the legend using the standard format.
        • Click the Position drop-down to specify where you would like the legend to appear in relation to the graph. The position is set to Bottom by default. Other options include Top, Left, and Right.
      • Table - to display the legend in table format. For example,
        • Name - displays the device name.
        • Past 24 hours - displays the data coming from the selected TopN resources for all the indicators in the past 24 hours.
