Managing passwords

The IBM® Security Verify password is used to sign in to Verify and to access a target application in a single sign-on setup. You can reset the Verify password if the user forgot it, has trouble signing in with it, or the password is compromised.

Before you begin

  • You must have administrative permission to complete this task.
  • Log in to the IBM Security Verify administration console as an Administrator.

About this task

You can perform the following tasks:
  • Reset the password for a single user.
  • Reset the password for multiple users.

You can perform password reset only for cloud directory users and federated onprem ldap users. The password cannot be reset for other federated user.

When you reset the user password, the user is notified by email of the following information:
  • The reset action
  • The temporary password for login
  • Extra instructions
Note:

When you reset a password, a new temporary password is sent to the registered email address of the user and the user's manager, if specified. Other existing login sessions are invalidated and the user needs to login again on those devices.

Procedure

  1. Select Directory > Users & groups
  2. Select the Users tab.
  3. Select one or more users.
Note: If you select a cloud directory user and a federated user, only the password for the cloud directory user and onprem ldap user gets reset.
  4. Select Reset Password.
You can also reset the password for a single user from the User Profile page by selecting Reset password.
A confirmation dialog box is displayed.
  5. Optional: Toggle whether to send the new password to the manager.
This option is displayed if a manager was specified for one or more of the users whose password is being reset.
  6. Select Reset Password to confirm that you want to reset the user's password.
A new temporary password is sent to the registered email address of each user and the user's manager if specified.
