Setting up Edge Gateway

This guide provides the information to install, deploy, and run the Edge Gateway to enable the platform to connect with data sources hosted in your private network. You must install and run the Edge Gateway in your own environment.

If you want to connect a data source in your network to the platform, you must install and set up an Edge Gateway. You then use the Edge Gateway in the platform to configure secure connectivity between your network and the the platform environment.

Note: Edge Gateway was previously known as App Host.
Important: The Edge Gateway is a Kubernetes-based container deployment environment that you install and run in your environment.

For more information about data sources in the platform, see Universal data insights.

Edge Gateway for data sources work flow

The work flow for using the Edge Gateway for data sources is as follows:
  1. Install and set up the Edge Gateway software to host the containers that are required for communication between the data sources and the platform, as described in this guide.
  2. Add the Edge Gateway in the platform and pair the platform account with the Edge Gateway. This is described in Creating pairing code.
  3. Connect your data sources, selecting the Edge Gateway from the Connection details page when connecting a data source from the platform.

There is a training course about configuring and deploying the Edge Gateway in the IBM Security Learning Academy.
