Installing the Java plug-in on AIX and Linux

To install the Java™ plug-in on AIX® and Linux® systems, symbolically link it to the plug-in directory for your browser.

The Java plug-in is based on the Mozilla Open JVM Integration initiative, which is used with most Mozilla products and derivatives, including Firefox.

You must symbolically link the plug-in, rather than copy it, so that the browser and plug-in can locate the JVM.

Complete these steps to make the Java plug-in available to Mozilla Firefox users:
  1. Log in as root user.
  2. Change to the Firefox plug-in directory.
    cd /usr/local/mozilla-firefox/plugins/
Note: The directory name is different for different Linux distributions.
  3. Create a symbolic link to the plug-in. For Firefox 3.x, use the command:
    ln -s /opt/ibm/java-<arch>-80/jre/lib/<arch>/libnpjp2.so .
