Installing IBM Storage Defender Copy Data Management on Microsoft Hyper-V (Only for IBM customers)

To install IBM® Storage Defender Copy Data Management in a Microsoft Hyper-V environment, download the Copy Data Management VHDX zip file. The extracted VHDX files enables you to create and configure a virtual machine based appliance. Follow the procedure below to prepare the environment and complete the initial configuration.

Before you begin

Note: In this release, IBM Storage Defender Copy Data Management deployment on Microsoft Hyper-V is supported only for IBM customers.
Before starting IBM Storage Defender Copy Data Management deployment on Hyper-V, ensure the following prerequisites are met:
  • Hyper-V host is reachable and Hyper-V Manager is installed and accessible.
  • The user performing the deployment must be part of the local Hyper‑V Administrators group on the Hyper‑V host.
  • Review the Hyper-V system requirements. See System requirements for Hyper-V on Windows Server.

About this task

Complete the following steps to install IBM Storage Defender Copy Data Management as a Hyper-V appliance.

Procedure

  1. Download the IBM Storage Defender Copy Data Management installer zip file.
  2. Extract the downloaded zip file and double-click on the setup.exe file.
    IBM Storage Defender CDM - InstallShield Wizard displays.
  3. Click Next. On the License agreement step, select I accept the terms of the license agreement and then click Next.
  4. On the Select extraction destination step, click Browse to select the destination folder (or keep the default location), and then click Next.
  5. On the Ready to extract step, click Install. Once the extraction is completed, click Finish.
  6. Open Hyper-V Manager and click New > Virtual Machine.
  7. Provide a name for the CDM virtual machine. Click Next
  8. Select the Generation 1 virtual machine. Click Next.
  9. Enter the startup memory as 48 GB and check the Use dynamic memory for this machine check box. Click Next.
  10. Configure network by selecting appropriate network adapter/switch from the Connection dropdown list. Click Next.
  11. Choose Use an existing virtual hard disk option and select Disk1 file from the extracted VHDX zip files. Click Next.
  12. Click Finish to complete the process on the New virtual machine wizard.
  13. Open VM settings and add a SCSI controller. Go to Settings > Hardware > Add hardware and select SCSI controller. Click Add.
  14. Under SCSI controller tab, select Hard drive and click Add.
  15. Attach Disk2 file as a virtual hard disk under the SCSI controller.
  16. Attach Disk3 file as another virtual hard disk.
  17. Under Processor tab, select the number of virtual processors to 4.
  18. Click Apply and close the Settings window.
  19. Start the virtual machine and monitor Hyper-V console logs to ensure Copy Data Management deployment starts successfully.
  20. Log in using root credentials and change password when prompted.
  21. Access Copy Data Management GUI and update admin password from default credentials. For more information, see Access and default credentials.
