1089 Service Processor shows fan failure

Explanation

One or more fans are failing. A fan has a fault condition.

User response

On IBM® SAN Volume Controller, FlashSystem 5000, IBM Storage Virtualize for Public Cloud, and IBM Storage Virtualize, complete the following steps:

  1. Determine the failing fans from the fan indicator on the system board or from the text of the error data in the log. Each fan module contains two fans.
  2. Mechanically stop or remove the failing fan. If a fan is not installed, shut down the node, open it, and install the fan. If a fan is installed, replace fan FRU indicated by the FAN identifier that is supplied in the Extra data.
  3. Exchange the FRU for a new FRU.
  4. Run the fix procedure from the event log menu in the GUI.

On FlashSystem 7200 and FlashSystem 9200, complete the following steps:

  1. Determine the failing fans from the fan indicator on the system board or from the text of the error data in the log.
  2. If the fan is hot-swappable, exchange the failed fan assembly for a new fan assembly, and then go to the final step. Otherwise, complete the following steps.
  3. Identify the node canister to shut down.
  4. Identify the volume dependencies for the node canister to determine that it is acceptable to shut down the node canister.
  5. Shut down the node canister.
  6. Before you remove any cables, label or record the location of each cable that is connected to the rear of the canister.
  7. Remove the node canister and take off the lid.
  8. Exchange the failed fan FRU for a new FRU.
  9. Replace the lid, and then reinsert the node canister into its slot.
  10. Reconnect all cables to their correct ports.
  11. Confirm that the error is cleared from the log, or follow the fix procedure to clear the error.
