Assign snapshot policy in IBM Storage Virtualize
To assign a snapshot policy to a volume group by selecting Volume Groups, complete these steps:
  1. In the management GUI, select Volumes > Volume Groups.
  2. Select the volume group from the list of volume groups. In the overflow menu, select View Details.
  3. On the Policies tab, click Assign Internal Snapshot Policy.
  4. From the Assign Internal Snapshot Policy page, select the snapshot policy from the list of snapshot policies that you want to assign to a volume group. If you select a volume group that is already assigned a snapshot policy, it replaces that policy with this new policy that you selected.
  5. If any volumes in the selected volume groups are source volumes in a FlashCopy mapping, the Ignore existing FlashCopy mappings is displayed. If you are creating new snapshots or a Safeguarded snapshot, select this option. If this option is not selected, snapshots cannot be created. After you select this option and the snapshot policy is assigned successfully to a volume group, this option no longer displays.

If volumes in a volume group are target volumes, you cannot create snapshot and Ignore existing FlashCopy mappings is not visible. If volumes in a volume group are both source and target volumes, Ignore existing FlashCopy mappings is visible, however you cannot create snapshot.

  6. Select Date and Choose a time (optional) for the policy to begin. Based on selected frequency of snapshots, the start time defaults to whenever the policy is assigned to a volume group.
  7. Select Safeguarded to safeguard the snapshots. If Safeguarded is selected, the snapshot policy creates Safeguarded snapshots for all the volumes in the group based on the schedule.
  8. Click Assign Policy to assign the policy.
