Fabric Device Management Interface
The Fabric Device Management Interface (FDMI) enables any storage endpoint to register itself to the Fibre Channel (FC) fabric and query the HBA and port details of the entire fabric.
The FDMI functionality is divided into these two categories:
- FDMI registration
- The IBM® Storage Virtualize system registers with the FC fabric and provides the system information to the FDMI database, such as node names, port speed, and software version.
- FDMI discovery
- The IBM Storage Virtualize system queries the FC fabric and collects the information about all the other devices on the fabric. Information is also collected about the devices that are not zoned to connect to the IBM Storage Virtualize system.
To view the FDMI information, run the lsfabricport command that provides HBA and port attributes such as fdmi_host_name, fabric_name, os, and speed. FDMI discovery runs automatically every 6 hours and collects information about the fabric. However, to get the updated/latest fdmi data, use detectfabricport command that triggers FDMI discovery on all connected fabrics.
The same details are captured as a part of Call Home inventory data. To get the list of unconfigured host candidate ports, run the lsfabricport -hostcandidate command.
