Configuring the AIX operating system

You must configure the AIX® operating system before you can use IBM® Power Systems hosts with the system.

Before you begin

Before you configure the AIX host operating systems, the following tasks must be completed:
  • The system must be installed.
  • The appropriate host bus adapters must be installed.

About this task

After the prerequisite tasks are complete, use the following general steps to configure your AIX host system.

Procedure

  1. Zone the host to the system nodes on the Fibre Channel SAN.
  2. Install the appropriate multipathing driver for your host to enable the management of multiple paths to the system volumes.
Note: The Native Multipathing Plug-In (NMP) and the AIX Path Control Module (AIXPCM) for the AIX operating system support System p AIX host systems in a clustered-system environment. To have failover protection on an open system, these multipath drivers require a minimum of two Fibre Channel adapters. The maximum number of Fibre Channel ports that are supported in a single host (or logical partition) is four. This maximum number can be four single-port adapters or two dual-port adapters or a combination. The maximum number of ports that are attached to the system cannot exceed four.
  3. On the system, create the host by using the worldwide port names (WWPNs). Map the volume to the host.
  4. Create volumes and disks on your host by using instructions in your host system publications.
