Migrating to IBM Storage Copy Data Management as external scheduling application

If you are currently using IBM Copy Services Manager as your external scheduling application, you can migrate to IBM® Storage Copy Data Management.

Using the management GUI

Migration to IBM Storage Copy Data Management from IBM Copy Services Manager requires that all active Safeguarded backup policies are removed from volume groups that use IBM Copy Services Manager as an external scheduling application. After backup policies are removed, remove the URL for the IBM Copy Services Manager interface from the management GUI. Currently, the system only supports one scheduling provider.

To migrate from IBM Copy Services Manager to IBM Storage Copy Data Management, complete these steps:
  1. In the management GUI, select Volumes > Volume Groups.
  2. On the Volume Groups page, select a volume group, select the Policies tab, and click Manage Safeguarded Backup Policy.
  3. On the Manage Safeguarded Policy page, select Remove policy from the volume group check box.
  4. Click Apply changes.
  5. Repeat these steps for all the Safeguarded backup volume groups.
  6. To verify that the existing Safeguarded backup policies are removed, on the Volume Groups page, select a volume group and select the Policies tab. Ensure that you see this message: Safeguarded backup policy is not assigned. Repeat this step for all the volume groups.
  7. In the management GUI, select Settings > GUI preferences, and ensure Display Safeguarded backup policy tile and External Scheduler Application Settings: is Visible.
  8. Select Settings > System > External Scheduling Applications.
  9. On the External Scheduling Applications page, select Remove URL.
  10. Click Remove on the verification panel.

Using the command-line interface

Alternatively, you can use following command-line interface steps to migrate to IBM Storage Copy Data Management:
  1. Enter the following command:
    rmsafeguardedpolicy -removefromvolumegroups <safeguarded_policy_id | safeguarded_policy_name>
    where <safeguarded_policy_id | safeguarded_policy_name> is the ID or name of the Safeguarded policy.
  2. Enter the following command:
    mksafeguardedpolicy -external
