Create diagrams using IBM Rational UML Modeling tools

This tour describes how to use IBM® Rational® Unified Modeling Language tools to create UML diagrams.

IBM Rational modeling offerings simplify modeling in UML by providing context-sensitive tools that guide you as you create UML diagrams.

Content assist is a built-in Eclipse modeling feature that provides suggestions, displays valid code listings, and attempts to complete your code as you type it. For example, you can use content assist to edit property types and method signatures in a class diagram. When you type the name of a property, and then type a colon (:), you see a list of all possible return value types.

You can use diagram assist features, such as action bars and connector handles, to quickly draft diagrams that represent your UML models. As you create a UML diagram, the diagram assist feature prompts you with visual cues that provide a simplified, but powerful, context-sensitive tool. These tools enable you to create and populate diagrams in a contained area, so that you do not lose focus by using toolbars or the Palette, which can take your attention away from the diagram. You can use diagram assist features to create complex UML diagrams in less time, using fewer keystrokes and mouse movements.

These user-assisted modeling features can help you create accurate UML diagrams without the steep learning curve and complex user interface of other enterprise application development suites.
