Installing computer certificate

The certificate is automatically installed together with the computer after you install IBM RPA client. However, in occasions where the tenant code was not specified during the installation, or the current certificate is invalid or corrupted, you must install the certificate manually.

About this task

Certificates are files that validate the connection from the registered computer to the server. Certificates follow the X.509 model.

Legacy certificates use an old signature, which is used in versions before version 20.12 of IBM Robotic Process Automation. As of version 20.12, the server identifies both certificates.

Computers have unique identifiers that link them to a tenant. The certificate uses this identifier to legitimize the request to the API, which causes requests to manage resources from the correct tenant.

Notice that each computer has only one active certificate, and that installing another certificate overwrites the existing certificate.

Before you begin

Your user needs permission to manage computers.
See the Checking user permissions topic to learn how to check your user permissions.

Procedure

If you are upgrading to IBM RPA 20.12 or later, you must install the new certificate because that version 20.12 introduced a new type of certificate. Follow these steps to install the certificate:

Installing a new certificate

  1. If the computer is not registered, follow the steps in Procedure for creating a computer to add the computer. Ensure that all the information is valid.
  2. Choose a computer and click the vertical ellipsis ⋮ button > Download Certificate.
  3. Run the file to install the certificate.

Installing a legacy certificate

  1. If the computer is not registered, follow the steps in Procedure for creating a computer to add the computer. Ensure that all the information is valid.
  2. Choose a computer and click the vertical ellipsis ⋮ button > Download Certificate (Legacy).
  3. Run the file to install the certificate.
Important:Legacy certificates are only used for computers that are running an IBM RPA version older than 20.12. Do not install a legacy certificate if you do not meet this requirement.
Important:Starting from version 23.0.10, you can no longer download legacy certificates. If you are experiencing problems with the certificate, update IBM RPA to a newer version.

Result

After you run the certificate file, you see a message that states that the installation was completed successfully.
