Installing the client using the installer

Learn step by step how to install the IBM Robotic Process Automation as a Service client through the standard installer.

Before you begin

  • The installer requires a stable internet connection to proceed with the installation.
  • Make sure you meet the prerequisites described in Prerequisites to install the client.
  • Download the installer. For more information about how to download it, see Downloading the IBM RPA installer.
  • Starting from IBM RPA 23.0.2: Copy the tenant's installation key. For more information about how to get it, see Installation key.
  • The IBM Robotic Process Automation default installation directory is C:\Program Files. You cannot change the installation directory.

Procedure

  1. Select the installer language. Click Next to continue the installation with the selected language.

    The screen shows the first setup screen. It allows the user to choose a language to install the application.

  2. Wait until the installer is ready to proceed with the installation. Click Next to continue.

    The screen shows the first setup screen. It informs the user that the installer is ready to install IBM RPA.

  3. Carefully read the User License Agreement and select I accept the terms in the License Agreement. Click Next to continue.

  4. Select one of the three setup types available to install IBM RPA applications.

    Each IBM RPA application is installed according to the setup type you select:

    • Typical
      Installs only essential features for running scripts, such as IBM RPA Launcher, Bot Runtime, and the IBM RPA Vault. It does not install IBM RPA Studio.

    • Custom
      Choose which tools and features to install.

    The screen displays the Setup Types.

    • Complete
      Installs all IBM RPA applications and features. This includes IBM RPA Studio.

    Click Next to continue.

  5. Wait until the installer is ready to proceed with the installation. Click Next to continue.

    The setup displays the ready-to-install screen.

  6. Optional: Set up a proxy configuration. You need to provide the connection data to a proxy server.

    If you have any proxy server in your environment, you must provide a proxy configuration. IBM Robotic Process Automation is unable communicate with its API if the proxy server is not configured properly.

  7. For IBM RPA before 23.0.2: Enter the license data. This step is optional if you already have IBM RPA client installed:

    The screen displays the license configuration for the IBM RPA SaaS client.

    • From the Region list, select the server region that host your tenant or tenants.
    • Optional: In the Tenant Code field, enter the tenant code. If your user isn't assigned to a tenant, you can manually certify your computer later.
    • Optional: In the License Id and Password fields, enter your license ID and password. You can manually license your computer later.

  8. Starting from IBM RPA 23.0.2: Enter the installation key.

    The screen displays the installation progress bar.

    You get your installation key on your tenant on IBM RPA Control Center. For instructions on how to copy the installation key, see Installation key.

    Important:The installer registers and certifies the computer to the tenant that generated the installation key. After the installation, you can log in to IBM RPA Control Center, and to go Computers > Computers tab to search for your computer.
  9. Wait until the installer installs IBM RPA. Click Next to continue.

    The screen displays the installation progress bar.

  10. Click Finish to exit the installer.

    The screen displays completed installation window.

  11. Restart the computer to properly start the application's services.
