Installing the client by using the installer
Learn how to install the IBM Robotic Process Automation on premises client through the standard installer with this step by step guide.
Before you begin
- Install and configure the IBM RPA server. The IBM RPA client relies on it to work. For more information, see Installing the server.
- You don't need an internet connection to proceed with the installation. You can use a local network connection to connect with the server.
- Make sure you meet the prerequisites described in Prerequisites to install the client.
- Download the installer. For more information about how to download it, see Downloading the IBM RPA installer.
- Starting from IBM RPA 23.0.2: Copy the product's installation key. For more information about how to get it, see Getting the installation key.
- The IBM Robotic Process Automation default installation directory is
C:\Program Files
. You cannot change the installation directory.
Procedure

Select the installer language. Click Next to continue the installation with the selected language.

Wait until the installer is ready to proceed with the installation. Click Next to continue.

Carefully read the User License Agreement and select I accept the terms in the License Agreement. Click Next to continue.

Select one of the three setup types available to install IBM RPA applications.
IBM RPA installs each application according to the setup type that you select:

Typical
Installs only essential resources for running scripts, such as IBM RPA Launcher, Bot Runtime, and the IBM RPA Vault. It does not install IBM RPA Studio. -
Custom
Choose which applications and features to install.
Starting from version 23.0.3, you can now enable or disable Microsoft™ MQ (MSMQ) support. Only disable it if the IBM RPA on premises server does not use MSMQ as the system queue provider.
- Complete
Installs all IBM RPA applications and features. This includes IBM RPA Studio.

Click Next to continue.

Wait until the installer is ready to proceed with the installation. Click Next to continue.

Optional: Set up a proxy configuration. You need to provide the connection data to a proxy server.
If you have any proxy server in your environment, you must provide a proxy configuration. IBM Robotic Process Automation is unable to communicate with its API if the proxy server is not configured properly.

Do the following step depending on the client version that you are installing:

Starting from IBM RPA 23.0.2: Enter the Client and Server connection data.
Installation Key
Enter the installation key. Get the installation key on your tenant in the IBM RPA Control Center. See Getting the installation key.Important:The installer registers and certifies the computer to the tenant that generated the installation key. After the installation, you can log in to IBM RPA Control Center to change the computer's capacity. For more details, see Managing computer's capacity.API Address
Enter the URL to the API server. The API server address is defined by server admins during the IBM RPA server installation. This URL can be either the IP address to the server or the server's domain name, such ashttps://203.0.113.15:7790
orhttps://api.example.com/
, if the server has a domain name for the API.Important:Starting from version 23.0.6, you no longer need to enter the API address when you install the client. The API address comes from the installation key.- For IBM RPA versions before 23.0.2: Enter the license data.
This step is optional if you already have IBM RPA client installed:
API Address
Enter the URL to the API server. The API server address is defined by server admins during the IBM RPA server installation. This URL can be either the IP address to the server or the server's domain name, such ashttps://203.0.113.15:7790
orhttps://api.example.com/
, if the server has a domain name for the API.Tenant code
Enter the tenant code, for example,5000
.Tip:By default, the Tenant code is5000

Wait until the installer installs IBM RPA. Click Next to continue.

Click Finish to exit the installer.

Restart the computer to properly start the application's services.
