Configuring the User Vault

A credential profile is a named reference to a User Vault credential. This reference must exist so that the users that have access to it can configure their credentials locally in the User Vault.

Before you begin

See Planning for using the IBM RPA Vault for considerations and differences between the user and system vaults.

Procedure to configure credential profiles

Complete the following steps to configure credential profiles:

Requirement: The tenant user must have administrator rights.

  1. Login to the tenant you want to configure by using the IBM RPA Control Center.
  2. In the side menu, click Credentials.
  3. Go to the Vault Credentials tab.
  4. Choose the desired action:
    • To create a new credential: click New Vault Credential.
    • To edit an existing credential: click the vertical ellipsis ⋮ > Edit Vault Credential.
  5. Fill in the required fields:
    • In the Key field, enter the vault credential profile name.
    • In the Teams with vault usage field, select the teams that must have access to this credential.
Note:Fill in the Description field with an informative text about the credential's purpose.

Procedure to configure credentials in the User Vault

Configuring a credential profile grants users that have access to it to register local credentials to use on bots. The fact that User Vault credentials are local enables the same profile to store different values according to the users' configuration.

Complete the following steps to register credentials in the User Vault:

  1. Right-click the IBM RPA Vault icon in the system tray and click Open vault.

If the icon is not visible, the IBM RPA Vault may not be running. In this case, you can run the Vault.exe file located in the IBM IBM Robotic Process Automation installation folder, or check the license by going to the License page (https://localhost:8099/web/en-US/license) at the machine where IBM IBM Robotic Process Automation is installed. The number of available instances can be found with the Vault label.

Important:Starting from version 23.0.3, the License page (https://localhost:8099/web/en-US/license) isn't available anymore because of the removal of License ID and License password and implementation of installation keys. For details on proxy, region, or status, go to the IBM RPA Client page (https://localhost:8099/web/en-US/ibmrpaclient) instead.
  2. If it is the first login: configure the master password to be used to open the IBM RPA Vault. The IBM RPA Vault will open after configuring the master password.

  3. Open the IBM RPA Vault by typing the configured master password.

Note:The master password can be reconfigured by selecting the Change Password option.
Caution:All the credentials in the User Vault will need reconfiguring if the master password changes.

All the credentials in the User Vault will need reconfiguring if the master password changes.

  4. In the dropdown menu of the IBM RPA Vault icon, click Manage.

  5. Right-click the credential you want to configure and select Change the current password.

  6. Type the user and password information that you want to store.
