Versioning reference

There are four important pieces of information related to versions of IBM RPA on Red Hat® OpenShift® Container Platform.

  • Operator channel
When installing the operator, you select a channel. Red Hat® OpenShift® Container Platform installs the latest operator version available on that channel.

  • Operator version
The operator version determines the operand versions available to installed. For example, to use operand version 1.2.0 you need an operator version of 1.2.0 or higher.

  • Operand version
Determines the version of IBM RPA that the operator installs. Updating the operand version updates IBM RPA.

  • IBM RPA version
The IBM RPA version that the operator installs which is based on the operand version.

When you update the operand version you update the IBM RPA version. Change the operand version by modifying the version field of the IBM RPA CR in the Red Hat® OpenShift® Container Platform web console. Or if you prefer, you can edit the YAML file again and change the spec.version field to the version number of the operand you prefer.

Table 1. The table shows the reference for operator channel, operator version, and operand version for each IBM RPA version.

Important: Upgrading the IBM RPA operand version to 1.13.0 upgrades the IBM MQ version to 9.3.2.0-r1, which requires that you upgrade the IBM MQ operator channel to v2.3. This action moves the IBM MQ operator from Long Term Support (LTS) operator to the Continuous Delivery (CD) operator, which offers better coexistence with Cloud Pak offerings.

Table 2. The table shows the reference for IBM MQ operator channels and IBM MQ versions for each IBM RPA version.
