Installing Rational Software Architect Designer

This topic provides instructions for installing Rational® Software Architect Designer

Before you begin

Review the topic Scenarios for installing with the Installation Manager GUI.

To enable Installation Manager to search for the latest available version of the software, ensure that you are connected to the Internet.

Procedure

  1. Start IBM Installation Manager directly depending on your operating system and privileges:
    • If you are installing with administrator or root privileges:
      • For Windows and Linux:
        1. Run Installation Manager from its directory:
      • For OS X:
        1. From Finder, change the directory to RSA_SETUP/InstallerImage_macosx_cocoa_x86_64/.
        2. Double click Install.app.
    • If you are not installing with administrator or root privileges:
      1. Change to the directory where you extracted the disk images.
      2. Run the command for your OS:
        • Windows: RSA_SETUP\InstallerImage_win32_win32_x86\userinst.exe
        • Linux 32-bit: RSA_SETUP/InstallerImage_linux_gtk_x86/userinst
        • Linux 64-bit: RSA_SETUP/InstallerImage_linux_gtk_x86_64/userinst
        • OS X: Userinst.app in RSA_SETUP/InstallerImage_macosx_cocoa_x86_64/
    IBM Installation Manager starts.
  2. On the first page of the Install Packages wizard, select IBM Rational Software Architect Designer. If Installation Manager is not installed, it will also be selected.
  3. Optionally, select supporting software to install (e.g., WebSphere Liberty, Java SDK, Rational Desktop Connection Toolkit).
  4. Click Check for Other Versions and Extensions to search for updates.
    Installation Manager searches for updates in IBM's predefined repositories and any additional repositories you have configured.
  5. Click Next and review package information or descriptions in the Details pane.
  6. On the Licenses page, review and accept the license agreements for the selected packages, then click Next.
  7. If Installation Manager is not already installed, specify the Shared Resources directory and Installation Manager directory. Click Next to continue.
  8. On the Location page, select the installation directories for each package group. If installing on 64-bit OS, choose 64-bit or 32-bit mode. Click Next.
  9. On the Features page, select languages and package features to install. Click Next to continue.
  10. Configure the help system (Web, local, or intranet). Click Next.
  11. If installing WebSphere Application Server Test Environment extension, configure profiles and security as needed, then click Next.
  12. On the Summary page, review selections and click Install.
    A progress indicator shows installation completion.
  13. When installation completes, review success message and optionally view log file. Click Finish to complete.
  14. Close Installation Manager.
