Connecting to Tivoli Change and Configuration Management Database

Create a connection to Tivoli® Change and Configuration Management Database (CCMDB) in order to create links between configuration items (CIs) and Rational® Asset Manager software assets.

Before you begin

You must be a repository administrator or a community administrator to create a connection. You must have Tivoli Release Process Manager (RPM) installed with CCMDB.

Procedure

  1. Log in to the web application.
  2. Click Administration.
  3. Click the name of the community.
  4. Click the Connections tab.
  5. In the Change and Configuration Management Database section, click New Connection.
  6. On the connection properties page, complete the form with the details of the CCMDB installation.
    1. Name: Type a name for the connection. The name can include spaces and special characters.
    2. Description: Optionally, type a detailed description of the connection. The description can include spaces and special characters.
    3. URL: Enter the fully qualified URL, including the port number, to use when accessing the CCMDB application; for example, https://www.example.com:9443.
    4. Login: Type the user ID of a user authorized to access CCMDB.
    5. Password: Type the user's password for accessing CCMDB.
    6. Default asset owner: Click Select Owner to choose the Rational Asset Manager user who will own the assets that are created in the Rational Asset Manager repository from the CCMDB CIs.
    7. Synchronization schedule: Click Edit to modify how frequently the Rational Asset Manager repository will synchronize with the CCMDB repository. You can choose to synchronize daily or weekly at a specific time, or at an interval specified in minutes or hours.
  7. Click OK.

Results

Once you have created a connection, you can automatically register Rational Asset Manager as an operational management product (OMP) by clicking Create OMP. By creating the OMP using this method, it is not necessary to create a discovery library adapter to be loaded into Tivoli Application Dependency Discovery Manager (TADDM) so that the ITIC adapter can be used to create an OMP.

Example

When configuring CCMDB to use the Rational Asset Manager repository as a definitive library, you can generate a Discovery Library Adapter (DLA) output file that contains a list of specific software assets that CCMDB will consume. To specify which assets will be included in the DLA output file, you must define a search shortcut that uniquely identifies those assets:
  1. Click Assets to go to the Search for Assets page.
  2. Type a search string to use as the filter for your asset list; for example, my_filter.
  3. Click the View search shortcut icon below the search text field. A text field opens beside the icon with the search shortcut; for example, ramSearch:(1txt,my_filter).
  4. Copy the entire search shortcut from the text field.
  5. Return to this Connection Properties page and paste the search shortcut into the Search Text field.
To create an output DLA file to be saved on the file system, click Generate DLA Output. To generate the file and transfer the file using File Transfer Protocol to a remote location, click Generate and Send DLA Output.
