Finding assets by using visual browse

You can find assets, asset information by visually searching through the various relationships between assets in the repository.

About this task

You must have an active repository connection. If you do not have active repository connection, you can create one by following the Creating a connection to a Rational Asset Manager repository topic.

Procedure

  1. Open the Asset Repositories view. If it is not visible in your workspace, in the Eclipse menu click Window > Show view > Asset Repositories.
  2. Right-click on the repository connection that you want to search and click Visual Browse. The Graphical Search opens in the editor.
  3. Search for an asset by using any of the following techniques:
    • Type a keyword in the search field.
    • Click any combination of the filters or tags to increase the search specificity.
    Your results will appear the Search view in the upper right.
  4. To add assets to the viewer, in the Search View, click one or more Asset names.
  5. In the viewer, click on an asset to see its related assets.
    After you click an asset, the related assets appear in the Relationship View, which is the same area in the upper-right where the assets from your initial search were listed.
  6. Select the related assets to view these in the viewer and continue browsing the repository for assets by using the relationships.

Results

After you find an asset in the viewer that interests you, you can view additional information about this asset. Click on the menu icon in the right hand corner of the asset to open the menu, which has the following options:
Close Close icon
Removes that asset from the view
View Asset Details View asset details icon
Opens the asset in a new web browser window
Show Owners View owners icon
Adds the picture of the owners of the asset to the view and shows which assets in the view those people own. Click Add Owner Filter to add the owner as an additional search filter.
Show Related Assets Show related assets icon
Adds all related assets to the view. You can select to add one to three layers of related assets.

Adds a filter Related to <Asset Name> and updates the search results.
You can save the results of your visual browsing and share your diagrams with others:
  • Click Copy Diagram Copy Diagram icon to save the diagram to your computer's clipboard to paste into another program.
  • Click Save Diagram As Save Diagram As icon to save the diagram to your hard drive as an image file.
  • Click Add to Favorites Add to Favorites icon to save the diagram in the My Favorites view. You will also be given a URL that you can send to others so they can see your diagram.
  • Click My Favorites My Favorites icon to view and restore any diagrams that you previously saved.

To remove all assets from the viewer, click Clear Diagram Clear Diagram icon.

To group assets on the viewer by asset type, click Group Assets by Type Group Assets by Type icon.

To turn animations in the viewer on or off, click Toggle Animation Toggle Animation icon.
