If you cannot use the graphical user interface in IBM® Installation
Manager to install IBM Rational® Asset Manager,
you can use console mode, the interactive text-based user interface.
Before you begin
If you plan to use Apache Tomcat as your application server
or do not want to use Installation Manager, see Retrieving the server application files directly from the installation media.
Before
you install Rational Asset Manager,
make sure that a supported DB2®,
Oracle, or SQL Server database is installed and running.
If you are installing to a full IBM WebSphere® Application Server server
or cluster, make sure that the server or cluster is installed, updated
with the latest fix packs, and running. You must run Installation
Manager on
the same server as the application server. For a network-deployed
cluster, you must run Installation
Manager on
the server that is running the Deployment Manager.
Restriction: To
create and use a cluster
of application servers, you must have IBM WebSphere Application Server Network
Deployment (ND), which is not bundled with IBM Rational Asset Manager.
About this task
The
Rational Asset Manager package
includes installation files for
Installation
Manager.
A
selected option is indicated by an X [X]. An option
that is not selected is indicated by empty brackets [ ].
You can press Enter to accept the default entry or enter a different
command. For example, [N] indicates that the default
command is N, or next.
Procedure
- Start Installation Manager in console mode by entering
the ram-consoleinst-platform file
that is specific to your operating system on a command line.
- Enter 1 to install new software
packages.
- Enter the number that is next to the Rational Asset Manager server.
- To view the available versions for Rational Asset Manager,
enter O.
- Enter 1 to choose version 7.5.2.3.
- Enter N.
- On the Licenses screen, these options are available:
- 1: IBM Rational Asset Manager server.
To view a license agreement, enter the number that is next to the
product name.
- A: I accept the terms in the license agreement.
- D: I do not accept the terms in the license agreement. If
you decline the license agreement, the installation stops. To continue
the installation, you must accept the license agreement.
- Enter A to accept the terms in
the license agreement.
- Enter N.
- Choose one of these options:
- To select a package group in the Shared Resources Directory
that is compatible with the Rational Asset Manager package,
enter the number that is next to that package group.
- To enter a value for the Shared Resources Directory,
enter M. Enter a new location, and press Enter.
- To accept the default package group, continue to the
next step.
Restriction: You can specify the shared resources
directory only the first time that you install a package. Select a
drive that has enough space so that the shared resources of future
packages will have enough space. You cannot change the location of
the shared resources directory unless you uninstall all of the packages.
- Enter N.
- On the Features screen, enter N.
- Select IBM WebSphere Application Server.
- After you select WebSphere Application Server,
indicate the server configuration:
- Enter the location for the application server profile. Do not
use a profile that was created using the development template. For
a Network Deployment cluster, enter the location of the profile for
the deployment manager. For example, on a full installation of WebSphere Application Server,
enter C:\Program Files\IBM\WebSphere\AppServer\profiles\profile_name,
where profile_name is the name of the profile on
the server or the deployment manager for a cluster.
- If you enabled security on your application server, enter Y and
then enter the administrator user name and password. If you did not
enable security, enter N.
- Indicate whether you are installing a single server or a network
deployment cluster, and provide the server or cluster name. The server
must be identified and running to continue.
- Enter each server name.
- On the Summary screen, review your selections before you
install the package.
- Optional: Enter G to
generate an installation response file. Enter the name of the response
file and use .xml as the file extension. Response files are XML files. You can include a directory location
when you enter the response file name to save the file to a different
location.
- Enter I to install the package.
- When the installation is complete, enter F to
finish.
Results
If you installed to an instance
of WebSphere Application Server,
the server setup application was deployed to the application server.
If you installed to a WebSphere Application Server cluster,
the server setup application was deployed to the cluster.
What to do next
The server setup application
is a wizard that deploys the other enterprise archive and web archive
files and configures the database, the database connection, security,
and repository settings.
To configure the server application,
open a web browser and navigate to the server setup application at http://applicationServerHostname:port_number/Server_Setup_Context_Root,
where applicationServerHostname is the name of
the application server, port_number is the port
number of the application server, and Server_Setup_Context_Root is
the context root directory of the server setup application. For example: http://WASappServer.companyname.com:9080/ram.setup
Then, review the Configuring help content for web-based
products topic and set up the help content for the web client.
