Initiating a scan in IBM Quantum Safe Explorer Visual Studio Code Extension
Before initiating a scan in IBM Quantum Safe Explorer Visual Studio Code Extension, follow the steps in the IBM Quantum Safe Explorer installation guide to install IBM Quantum Safe Explorer in your Visual Studio Code IDE.
To open IBM Quantum Safe Explorer Visual Studio Code Extension and initiate a scan, complete the following steps:
-
Open the Visual Studio Code source code editor.
-
Open the project folder or code base to be scanned. The scan can be performed at a project level or a file level.
-
Click the Terminal tab, and then select New Terminal. Alternatively, you can press Ctrl + tilde (~). The Terminal panel appears.
-
On the Terminal panel, click QUANTUM SAFE EXPLORER. The SCAN RESULTS and METADATA sections appears.

-
Press Ctlr + Shift + P to open the Command Palette and initiate a project-level scan to view the QUANTUM SAFE EXPLORER DASHBOARD. Alternatively, click View and select Command Palette to view the Command Palette. The list of Visual Studio Code commands is displayed.

-
Select Quantum Safe Explorer: Scan. The "QS Explorer: Scanning for active file initiated" confirmation message appears.
Note: If there is only one project, then it will be selected as the default project to be scanned. If there are multiple projects in the workspace, then the list of open projects appears in the drop-down menu. Select the project to be scanned.

Note: While the scan is in progress, a "Scan in progress" message appears at the bottom left side of the screen.
-
Once the scan is complete, the "QS Explorer: Scan completed!" notification appears.
Note: When scanning large applications (e.g., more than 500,000 lines of code) on macOS systems, IBM Quantum Safe Explorer consumes a large amount of disk space. It is advised to archive and clear the results folder and to reboot the machine before initiating a scan on another application.
