Adding an execute object action

With the execute object action feature, you can automatically execute queries, a visual report, procedure, or quick report, and export, mail, or print the report.

About this task

There are two ways of adding an execute object action to a scheduled task:
  • Procedure 1: If you want to work with a task from the Task List window, follow this procedure.
  • Procedure 2: If you have scheduled the task from the context menu, follow this procedure.

Procedure 1

  1. Open a task in the Task List window.
  2. In the Scheduled Tasks view, select the task that you want to work with and click Edit Task.
  3. Click Add Action.

    The Action Wizard opens.

  4. Specify a name for the action in the Action name field, click Execute object, and then click Next.

    The Specify object page opens.

  5. Select the type of object that you want to execute.
  6. Specify the location of the object by using one of the following two options:
    Specifying Path
    1. To specify the static source location of the object, click Path and then click the ellipsis (...) at the bottom right of the Source area.

The Select a wizard dialog opens.

    2. In the Select a wizard dialog, navigate to and select the object and click Finish.
Note: For Amazon S3 data source objects, you can select only those objects that are created by using the basic authentication. The Amazon S3 data sources that are created by using SAML authentication are not displayed because the credentials, which were used while creating the data source, expire after some time. Hence you cannot schedule tasks for these objects.
    Specifying Formula
    1. To specify a conditional source location for the object, click Formula and click the ellipsis (...).

      The Formula Editor dialog opens.

    2. In the Formula Editor dialog, specify the complete path of the object that will be used to determine the location of the object, and then click OK.
Tip: To get the key for the object from the workspace, right-click the saved object, and then click Properties.

For information about how to specify the complete path in the formula editor, see Working with the Formula Editor.

  7. Select Set a new data source check box to specify a particular data source against which you want to execute the object. Then click the ellipsis (...), the Add Data Source window opens, select the required data source and click OK.
  8. To add an available data source, click Add Data Source. The Add Data Source window opens.
