Importing Catalog objects

To migrate the Db2 objects, you first export them and then import them into another QMF catalog or a repository workspace. To import the catalog objects, you can use either the File menu or the menu options that are available when you right-click the QMF catalog.

About this task

To import the exported catalog objects into another catalog or a repository workspace, use the Import QMF Catalog window. You can import one, some, or all the objects from the file.

Procedure

  1. From the File menu, select Import.
  2. Import the catalog objects by using one of the following methods:
    • To import objects into a QMF catalog, perform the following steps:
      1. Select the data source into whose catalog you want to import the objects and then click Next.

The Data source list contains only those relational databases for which QMF catalog is enabled. If you do not see your database in this list, enable the catalog for that database before importing the objects.

      2. Select the file that contains the objects that you want to import and then click Next.
    • To import objects into a workspace, perform the following steps:
      1. From the Select entry area, select the repository workspace folder into which you want to import the objects, and then click Next.
      2. Click Browse and select the file from which you want to import the objects.
Note: You can also right-click the QMF catalog where you want to import the QMF objects, and then click Import. The Import QMF Catalog window opens.
  3. Select the objects that you want to import.
For information about the available selection options, see Selection options to migrate catalog objects.
  4. Select the Do not show pop-up during the import checkbox to disable the pop-ups from appearing while importing.
  5. From the Select conflict resolution strategy option, click any of the following actions:
    • Rename the object,
    • Replace the object in the destination, and
    • Skip the object.
    Note:

Selecting the Do not show pop-up during the import checkbox will select Rename the object by default. The Rename the object option automatically appends CopyOf to the object’s name.

  6. Click Next. A page opens.
  7. Enter your credentials for the data sources that require you to log in.
  8. Click Validate once you have added the credentials. Under the Validation Status column, you will see the status after validation of the credentials.
  9. Click Finish to import the objects. This button gets enabled only after successful validation of the credentials.
Note: If the import is unsuccessful the Output window will provide a list of objects that failed to import and the object responsible for the failure.
If you do not select the Do not show pop-up during the import checkbox, the Finish button gets enabled after step 3.
If you click the Finish button to import the objects without selecting the Do not show pop-up during the import checkbox, and if the following scenarios are encountered provide the required information when prompted:
    • If you select a form, the referenced objects for the selected object are automatically selected. Though the referenced objects, which belong to another catalog, are not listed in the list of objects, they will also be imported. At that time, if required, you will be prompted to log into that data source.
    • If you select an object to import and an object with the same name already exists in the destination, you will be prompted to resolve the conflict.

Results
