Assigning users and groups permission to use workspaces and data sources

You can assign security permission levels for users and groups and control their access to workspaces and data sources.

About this task

Security permission levels for users and groups can only be assigned for secured repositories (those created with Internal or LDAP security). To assign users and groups different levels of permission to use workspaces and data sources, complete the following steps:

Procedure

  1. In the Repositories view, switch to the Workspaces tab.
  2. Right-click the workspace that you want to work with and click Properties.
  3. In the Properties window, select Security.
  4. Each user or group that has been granted permission to use this repository is listed in the Group or user names field. To add a user or a group, click Add and use the Select Users or Groups window.
  5. Each user or group can be assigned a different permission level for the selected workspace. The available permission levels are listed in the Permissions for list. To assign a permission level, select a user or a group and then select the permission level that you want to assign. The following permission levels are available:
    • Full: grants the user or group permission to perform all functions (edit, view, browse and delete) on the workspace or data source. In addition, full permission level allows users to modify permissions that have been assigned to workspaces and data sources.
    • Edit: grants the user or group permission to make changes to the workspace or data source, as well as view and browse it.
    • Browse: grants the user or group permission to see the contents of the workspace or data source. For example, browse privileges on a directory in the repository allows a user to see what is inside that directory. Browse privileges on a query object allows a user to open and run the query object.
    • View: grants the user or group permission to see the repository objects listed in the workspace or data source. For example, view privileges on a directory in the repository allows the user only to see the directory. The user cannot open the directory or see the contents of the directory. View privileges on a query object only allow users to see the object. They cannot open or run the object.
    • None: denies the user or group permission to access the workspace/data source and it's child objects.
  6. Click Apply permissions to child folders and objects to apply the selected level of permission to all of the workspace/data source child objects.
  7. To remove permission from a user or group, select the user or group from the Group or user names list and click Remove.
  8. Click Apply.
  9. Click OK.
