Using the Quick Start wizard to configure JDBC drivers and connect to repositories

You can run the QMF Quick Start wizard to configure repositories and connect to the database.

About this task

The QMF Quick Start wizard configures QMF to connect to data by defining the JDBC libraries, connecting to a repository and adding data sources.

Running the Quick Start wizard is appropriate if you want to minimize the amount of time required to achieve a functional QMF environment for personal use.

The Quick Start wizard is ideal for users that have little experience working with JDBC drivers and Data Sources to create working production configuration.

Procedure

  1. From the menu bar, select Help > Quick Start.

The Welcome to the Quick Start Wizard page opens. Click Next.

  2. On the Define JDBC libraries page,
    • If you do not want to add JDBC drivers to the list that is provided, click Next.
    • If you want to add JAR files for a particular driver, click Select directory with driver's JAR files icon, select a directory with associated files, and click OK.

The JDBC library provides information about a particular JDBC driver. It defines the path to the driver, its JDBC URLs, and list of supported properties. For more information, see Setting JDBC preferences.

  3. On the Repository Connections page,
    • From the Server list, select the QMF Server whose repository connections you want to display, or select Local to display the repository connections that are available on your local machine.
Note: QMF Server-based repository connections will be available to you only if you have an instance of QMF Registry configured for your QMF client.
    • Right-click the repository that you want to connect to, establish the connection, and click Next.
    • Click the Create new connection to Repository icon to add a new repository connection as described in Creating the repository connection for QMF. Click Next.
  4. On the Data Sources page,
    • If you do not want to add any data source to the list that is provided, click Finish.
    • To add a data source, use one of the icons above the provided list depending on the type of the data source that you want to add. Complete the procedure as described in Data sources. Click Finish.

Results

You have configured JDBC libraries and connected to a repository with data sources.

What to do next

As an administrator, you can generate and export the settings.xml file to users so that users can begin using the product. For more information see Exporting and importing the JDBC driver and connection information
