Working with folder data sources

Create folder data sources to access data files on your file system as tables.

Folder data sources provide users with a convenient way to work with data files in separate data sources. When creating a folder data source, you select a folder on your file system, and all the data files of supported types that are located there are converted by the application into tables.

In the Repository Explorer tree, the Tables node structure is based on conversion of the folder and its content.

Table 1. Conversion of folder objects into the Tables node
File system object Folder data source object
Root folder Root schema
  • Subfolder (if included)
  • .xls file
  • .xlsx file
Schema
  • Data file of a supported type (except .xls, .xlsx files)
  • Spreadsheet in a .xls or .xlsx file
Table

You work with such tables in the standard query editor. You can also configure the display of content of data files.

Folder data sources can be accessed locally, only by users who created them, regardless of the repository connection they are using.
