Updating QMF catalog tables
Use the Catalog Tables page of the QMF Catalog Plug-in Parameters window to update the QMF Catalog tables for a data source.
About this task
Procedure
- Open the Catalog Tables page of the QMF Catalog Plug-in Parameters window.
- To update a set of QMF catalog
tables that supports short names for objects, select Update
catalog tables to support short names. QMF will
check the existing QMF catalog
tables on the data source, and update or add to the existing tables
as necessary. You are given the opportunity to confirm and modify the SQL statements used to create the tables. Any data
that is in the existing catalog tables is maintained.
Select this option if you are upgrading from a previous version of QMF and the existing QMF catalog tables will continue to support only short names for objects.
- To update a set of QMF catalog
tables that supports long names for objects, select Update
catalog tables to support long names. QMF
will check the existing QMF catalog
tables on the data source, and update or add to the existing tables
as necessary. You are given the opportunity to confirm and modify the SQL statements used to create the tables. Any data
that is in the existing catalog tables is maintained.
Select this option if you are upgrading from a previous version of QMF and the existing QMF catalog tables will continue to support long names for objects. You would also select this option if you want to update the QMF catalog tables from supporting short names to supporting long names. If an existing set of QMF catalog tables that use short names is detected on the data source, those tables will be converted to support long names.
Note: In order to select this option, the data source must support long names. QMF will check to ensure that the data source supports long names.Tip: When the QMF Catalog tables are updated, QMF checks whether the required objects exist and restores the objects that are dropped to the appropriate locations in a database. The names of the objects that are generated in a database when you create the QMF Catalog and their property values are stored in the RDBI.SERVER_INFO table. If a database administrator renames some objects in a database, the information in the RDBI.SERVER_INFO becomes invalid. During the update process, QMF detects the objects that were renamed and saves their actual names to the RDBI.SERVER_INFO table. The changes that are made to the RDBI.SERVER_INFO table during the update process are displayed in a log file.
- Click OK to close the QMF Catalog Plug-in Parameters window. Any changes that you have made to the QMF Catalog Plug-in parameters are saved.
