The VMware Tools component helps you monitor the system.
When the VMware Tools component is installed on a virtual machine, VMware vSphere HA can also detect the operating system level failures, for example a Linux kernel crash. This software component is installed with IBM® Netezza® Platform Development Software by default. vSphere expects heartbeats from this component just like from the ESXi nodes. When no heartbeat is received, the virtual machine is restarted automatically.
Operating system crash detection through VMware Tools only works when IBM Netezza Platform Development Software is deployed on vSphere cluster. The feature must be enabled in the cluster settings in vSphere HA\VM Monitoring section. To enable it, switch VM Monitoring to VM Monitoring Only or VM and Application Monitoring.
