If IBM® Netezza® Platform Development
Software is
to run on multiple ESXi nodes, you must
create either a standard vSphere Switch, or a vSphere Distributed
Switch that requires VMware vSphere Enterprise Plus.
Procedure
- To
create a standard vSphere Switch (with VMware vSphere
Enterprise):
- In vCenter Client, select
the ESXi host from the Hosts
and Clusters inventory.
- Open the Configuration tab.
- In the Hardware section, click Networking.
Click the Add Networking button.
- Select Virtual Machine as connection
type.
- Select at least one network interface
(VMNIC) to connect
to the switch, click Next.
- Specify Network Label. If more
than one IBM Netezza Platform Development
Software instance
is to be deployed, you might need to assign VLAN ID.
Click Next, and then Finish.
- Follow steps 1 to 6 for all ESXi hosts using
the same Network
Label and, optionally, the same VLAN ID.
- To create a vSphere Distributed
Switch (with VMware vSphere
Enterprise Plus):
- From the Home page
of the vSphere
Client, open the Networking inventory view
and select your datacenter.
- In the Basic
Tasks section of
the right-side panel, click Add a vSphere Distributed Switch.
A switch creation wizard opens.
- Specify
switch version.
- Provide a name of the
switch name and the number of
physical adapters per host.
- In the Add
Hosts and Physical Adapters step,
select all ESXi servers to be connected to this network, and select
at least one network interface from each ESXi server to connect to
the switch. Together with the switch, the first port group is created
and named dvPortGroup.
- If more than one IBM Netezza Platform Development
Software instance
is to be deployed, you might need to change the group name and assign
VLAN. To do this, right-click the group name and select Edit
Settings... . Change the details as required.
- If vSphere Distributed Switch
(VMware vSphere Enterprise
Plus) is already created in the environment, you must create a new
port group with VLAN assigned:
- In the
Network Inventory view of the vSphere Client,
right-click the switch and select New Port Group from
the menu.
- Type new group name. Default
name is dvPortGroupN.
- In VLAN type, select VLAN.
- Assign a unique VLAN ID. To verify that the
ID is unique,
select the switch in the inventory tree, and on the right-side panel,
in the Networks tab, check the list of the existing IDs.
